Who makes a heavy barrel .30-06?

I already bought a Remington 700 SPS in .30-06 but wanted a heavier barrel. Does any company make a bolt action .30-06 with a heavy barrel?

Do you mean a new rifle with a heavier barrel or a replacement barrel to be put on your 700? If the later then I would recommend Hart, Bartlien, and Rock, you can get pretty much any length and contour you want.

700's are very easy to re-barrel. Just take your existing gun and have a competent gunsmith re-barrel it. They can put on whatever contour barrel you want.

I meant a factory gun that comes with a heavy barrel. I know I can have a heavy barrel put on my 700. I just wondered if there was any factory made rifles that came in .30-06 with a heavy barrel. If not then why not?

My best guess would be people start with a .308 and skip the 06 and go straight to a

I would guess that .30-06 is used primarily as a hunting cartridge, and most hunters want weight reduction before precision.

Heavy barrels are for precision, and for that a lot of people like cartridges that are more efficient than .30-06.

            That would be my guess.

With the slower powders available today the .30-06 can get pretty close to .300 Win Mag performance.

I was thinking along the same lines there.

                    Just get your 700 rebarreled.

Like I said before. I know I can get my 700 rebarreled. I just wanted to know if there were any factory bolt action rifles chambered for .30-06 and with a heavy barrel. The answer so far is no.

Kimber's "Sonora" with a heavy barrel and heavy laminated stock was chambered in 06 a few years ago.

Probably the gun I most kick myself in the *** over ( I would use 2 boots if I could ) was my Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 , it was the Target grade version with a heavy barrel in 30-06...huge flat forended walnut stock with target peep sights.

I was a dumb kid at the time, and this big heavy rifle that my grandpa had given me had no use to me at the time.

Why would you want a heavy barrel 30-06?
