Camping near Angeles / ITTS range?

I going from San Diego to the ITTS (at Angeles range) facility at the end of the month for a 2-day class. I've never been up there before. My plan is to go up Friday evening so I'm there 1st thing in the AM. I hate having to get up crazy early and then being tired all day during the class. I was thinking of taking my truck with self-contained camper up there to stay in for Fri and Sat night.

I was just wondering if anyone knows if there is anywhere near by the range that I could park for those nights. Free would be good, but a few bucks for a camping spot would be ok too. I dont need hookups or anything since my camper is self-contained. If not I guess I will be looking for a motel.

Any heads-up anyone can offer is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

hmm... i haven't seen any camp sites when i went out there. But i'm pretty sure you can find a spot to park your car overnight. Talk to the local ranger to get details.

does walmart still allow overnite parking? I've done that before, but thought I heard they weren't allowing that anymore.

Since you're self contained, and low impact, you might give the folks over at the Hideaway a call and see if you can crash in their lot for 2 nights. The plus is they have pretty good live music on the weekends and the bar is like a little slice of Texas Nowheresville. Food is fairly decent too. Location is the next canyon over, about 5 minutes from Angeles.

Hmm...sounds interesting. although when I've got 2 days of training to do I'm not sure how conducive to mental alertness staying at a honky tonk bar would be. LOL Untamed does love a good honky tonk bar.

I've been up there twice and always just stayed at hotels in burbank. There's a polo club and a farm along Little Tujunga Cyn road right outside of the range, they might let you park there for the night if you ask really nicely.

Edit: i should add that if you take your camper, the private range where ITTS holds its classes might be tough to get the camper up there. It's a moderately steep and rutted dirt/concrete road and there isn't much room for parking and to turn around, depending on how many classes are going on up there that day.

Hmmm....good to know. Like I said I've never been there. I think I have some hotel points I can use for a couple free nights. Maybe I will just do that, and scout things out for future trips if I wanna take the camper.

All the roads I used to camp on have been shut down due to recent fires and concerns of landslides. There is a ranger station right up the street from Angeles Shooting Range. Call them and see if any sites were unaffected and what the fee is.
With all this "gun control" talk, I've not heard one politician say how they plan on taking guns from criminals, just law abiding Citizens.

When there's only 1 class that weekend, it's not bad, but when there's two classes it gets a little tight. Cars can get out easy enough, but a camper might have issues.

There's another dirt lot right below the range though, you can always park there and just walk up the short hill.

                      I have a 10ft camper on an extra-cab, long bed f-250. so it's not like it's huge.
