    BLM

    Ok, forgive my ignorance....

I keep seeing posts about shooting on BLM.

I am guessing BLM stands for Bureau of Land Management?

How do you find out where you can shoot on BLM? Where is BLM land?

I know absolutely nothing about BLM or Shooting on BLM. So if any of you wouldn't mind a little help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Just keep in mind just because it's BLM that shooting is permitted all the time. There's a BLM area close to me that is designated a wild life refuge. The ranger told me that I have to be 300' away from the dirt road in order to shoot. Well 300' out places me on a 400' drop since it's on a mountain side.

Yes check out their website as Diesel have stated and check with the BLM ranger for that area you are planning to shoot.

Is there a difference between BLM and National Forest?

my understanding is that BLM is public owned land (state owned) and a national park is not, i think they are federally owned

Natl. Forest has trees, and BLM doesn't. But seriously, both are federal land. The BLM is part of the U.S. Department of the Interior. The N.F. is part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
In California shooting laws in unincorporated areas, which includes BLM and N.F. lands are set by county ordnance. Find the sheriff's station that covers the area your looking at, and call them.
