Can I get a list of the firearms for which I am listed as the purchaser, transferee, or owner?

Yes. To obtain a list of firearms listed in your name, complete and submit an Automated Firearms System Records Request [PDF 21 kb / 1 pg] form to the Automated Firearms Unit, P.O. Box 820200, Sacramento, CA 94203-0200. The letter must be signed, notarized, and include a photocopy of your photo ID card (ie., driver's license or DMV ID).

I've been planning on doing this for a while, since my wife's a notary and that part is easy, but I just haven't gotten around to it.

I've been told when you sell a handgun, they don't take it off the list of guns registered to you, and I'd like to see if that's true.

I am a notary and that statement is completely false. A notary public is not prohibited from
notarizing for relatives or others, unless doing so would provide a direct financial or beneficial
interest to the notary public. With California’s community property law, care should be exercised
if notarizing for a spouse or a domestic partner.

Me too. A friend of a friend did this and they listed all firearms, longguns and handguns. I was under the impression that no longgun information was retained. Hell they went back so far that a rifle that was purchased by this guys father showed up, he's a jr.

Did you actually see his list?

I just checked mine and only my handguns were listed.
I have purchased several rifles and almost all of them were before I wrote for my list.

No, I didn't see his list, we were driving at the time, anyway I would be too embarassed to ask to look at it. He's the room mate of a good friend. Maybe he was just BSing me when he said that. I did reply that longgun info wasn't supposed to be recorded.

Handguns and AW's listed only.

All purchases under these are tracked and it does list if you sold them or not but all such previous/ current ownership is tracked.

LE agencies have no way of tracking long guns other than tracing them frompint A to point B via lots of paperwork and footwork the old fashioned way. It a real PIA process, trust me. Usually we have the gun and do a reverse trace from the maker to the distributor to the FFl that first sold it, etc...

Unless he for some reason submitted a "voluntary registration" of long guns form. I imagine they would show up on the list in that circumstance.

Allright, I have a question since I see that a couple of notarys on in here.

I was told that if you are in the military on active duty orders that a notary cannot charge you to notarize documents. I called BS on this because I have been charged while on active duty. Can anybody shed some light on this? My buddy still claims this as true
