    Fees Fees Fees...

Never bought a gun here in California, but I'm looking to pick one up here in the next few weeks.

What kind of fees do you normally have to pay when buying? I'd like to be able to look at a tag and tack on what I should expect to pay OTD.

    Thanks in advance!

add 8-10% for tax, $25 for DROS, and $25 for the HSC test if you don't have one already and are purchasing a handgun.

Oooh, so I'm looking at adding almost a hundred bucks on top of a 500 dollar price tag for a handgun. Good to know!

Best to buy used ppt ftf. Cheaper gun, no sales tax.

Once you get your HSC it is good for 5 years.

No tax but you still have to pay DROS and a Fee to your FFL. J&R is only $10 though.

Looks to be the way to go. Just gotta be patient and wait until something good comes along, eh?

I think for a ftf transaction that ffls are not allowed to charge more than that

($25 for DROS and $10 for transfer). Now a transfer via mail is different.

I've picked up several good guns here on the marketplace. You could also post up a WTB if you are looking for something specific. Lately it seeks like all of the best guns have been in NorCal.
