out of range rentals?

Its just slightly over a week before I move to California now. Unfortunately ATF is a bit slow (surprise!) so it will probably take some time before I can get my own guns into the country.

Eventhough I can legally possess firearms from the day I move there, I'm not allowed to actually buy anything until I've been in the country for 90 days.

When I called ATF today to ask about the status of my forms I asked if it was ok for me to rent a gun for a longer period (ie actually taking it home with me) and they said it was perfectly legal.

Does anyone know of a gun store which would actually consider this?

I've been a very active competitor over here, so it would be ncie to be able to attend some competitions while Im waiting for my own guns.

I guess it would also be legal to borrow a gun from someone, but I think that would be even harder than finding a gunstore that will rent me one

I dont think any place would rent you a firearm to take home, at least I've never heard of any place doing that. Maybe take up archery for the next 90 days ?

I don't understand this. If you are moving to the Peoples Republic and own guns, why do you need to fill out ATF forms? If you are an IPSC of IDPA shooter, then buy as many handguns you can that's not on the approved list, otherwise you won't be able to get them once you are here. There's no store that will rent you a gun to shoot a match with, you will just have to bring your own gun or convince someone at the local club to let you shoot his gun.

If the country you are moving to is IRAQ then you are in luck!

......as they have a law that says every military age male must own one gun beginnin immediately from when you enter the country, with the AK being the most popular.....except for those with the REDWHITE&BLUE who prefer the M-4

I would certainly like to see what this supposed law you are referring to actually says...Sounds like a rumor/myth.
What some nations do is have compulsory military service and when you complete your service and are discharged, you retain a military rifle for the purpose of propagating trained, patriotic, armed men in society.

there is really a law like that in Iraq, but it says adult males _may_ own one gun, not _must_ own one gun.

Would feel better to rent a new gun from a store, put down the price as deposit and then a few extra dollars in rent for a month or so and then buy it from them later on.

Probably pretty close as well, but looks slightly better in my eyes...

If not... Im flying over in about a week, so if anyone has any duty free wishes ...

Anyway, the forms are being processed, so I should have them in about a month. Planning a trip back in mid Feb or so to pick up the guns (another duty free opportunity ), so hopefully it will only be six weeks without my guns.
