    Shipping Ammo

If you haven't tried, don't f'n bother. Such a wretched pain in the ***. Called every UPS and FedEx store in a 10 mile radius, EVERY single one has a POLICY of not shipping ammunition. Guess I need to hop on the 405 at rush and drive 20 miles to ship 35 rounds of ammo I traded a guy. NEVER NEVER NEVER AGAIN.

I think you are dealing with the franchise outlets. You probably need to go to a main hub directly owned by UPS or FedEx.

I had the same problem shipping a rifle to a gunsmith in Colorado.

      UPS manual says
      # Ammunition cannot be included in packages that contain firearms (including handguns). Ammunition must be shipped in accordance with the UPS Guide for Shipping Ground and Air Hazardous Materials
      FedEx manual says
      #

      6. Carrier will transport small-arms ammunition when packed and labeled in compliance with local, state and federal law, and the Hazardous Materials section of this Service Guide. Ammunition is an explosive and must be shipped separately as hazardous materials. You agree not to ship loaded firearms or firearms with ammunition in the same package.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

I agree you need to simply take your package directly to the UPS hub and ship it from them. Make sure you have the appropriate ORM-D tag on the box.

        You can print those here.

I find it easier to print up a UPS shipping label off of UPS's web site and just give the package to the first UPS guy I see. That's easy to do in the City because there is literally a UPS truck parked on every block downtown.

If you want to drop it off at a UPS facility then you can go on their web site and search for the closest UPS owned, UPS staffed shipping counter by entering your zip code. According to UPS's web site, these are the UPS owned, UPS staffed shipping counters closest to Orange County...

            UPS Customer Center
            STAFFED LOCATION
            22 BROOKLINE DR
            ALISO VIEJO, CA 92656

            STAFFED LOCATION
            1331 S VERNON ST
            ANAHEIM, CA 92805

            13233 MOORE ST
            CERRITOS, CA 90703

Things usually go more smoothly if you print up your own UPS shipping label at home instead of printing the label when you get there. You can make a shipping label and pay for the shipment with a credit card via UPS's web site. You need to know the weight of the package before you do this. You can add extra services like "Adult Signature Required" for an extra fee. Ammo has to go via UPS "ground" service.

When you are filling out the shipping information on the web site you should check the box in the "Additional Information" section that says "I will drop off my prepaid package(s) at a UPS location, or give my package(s) to my UPS driver."

Make sure that the package has the words "CARTRIDGES, SMALL ARMS" written on one side above the letters "ORM-D". You can also print up a sheet of these ORM-D labels if you are going to be shipping a lot of ammo...

Many UPS and FedEx employees don't know their own company rules about shipping ammo. If the UPS clerk gives you any grief about shipping ammo after you hand the package over the counter to them, tell them that you already called their 1-800 number and the people at the UPS hazardous materials help line told you that shipping ammo through UPS was perfectly fine and they walked you through all of the steps on how to do it. That usually shuts them up.
