    Snake shot for self defense?

Forgive me if this is in the wrong place. I don't post much. But here it goes.

The other day I was at the range and overheard a few guys talking about how they keep one or two rounds of snake shot in there carry/home defense pistols and one or two rounds of bird shot in their shotguns. I was wondering what would be the point to this and what could be the benefit to this. Just a noob question from me I suppose. But does anyone do this or has anyone heard of this before?

    Thanks

They don't want to kill the attacker, they want to severely maim/piss them off and face them in a lawsuit where the attacker will probably win.

To add, those with more knowledge than me will chime in as to why this is a very bad idea, but if you do not want to use lethal force to defend yourself, use something designed to give less-than-lethal force, not a 12 gauge with birdshot in it. If you're not mentally prepared to use a firearm, don't use one at all.

            NOT THIS AGAIN

snake shot is like fine grain sand, do you want to get hit by hit no way, will it kill you highly unlikely

it sounds like an incredibly stupid thing to do. if i only have enough time to get one round off to save the lives of my family, that round is going to be a full power jhp.

Terrible idea and practice against anything but a snake or small bird.

unless they have snake problems at their home....there really isn't a reason.

I figure snake or bird shot would be a bad idea for self defense, it seems like this practice goes along with the "shoot them in the leg" thing. I guess those kind of people should just have pepper spray.

I keep 3 rounds snake shot in my self defense 5 shot revolver. It makes it a lot easier to hit these little guys around my home:

Of course, I have other SD options for the big kitties around here and/or two legged snakes. Neither of which involve shotshells of any kind.
