Checking up on a FFL?

Is there anyway to check up on a FFL to see if they are legally holding a FFL? I ask because I was referred by a friend to a guy who has an FFL and is supposidly an "AW FFL". I thought there were only a couple of those in the entire state, and I had not heard his name before so my suspicions were slightly peaked. Shortly after I found out that he works out of his house doing only special orders/transfers. That really hit a wrong note and I got slightly worried. I haven't talked directly to the guy, so my friend may just be misinformed, but I would rather check up on the guy before hand before I waste his or my time. Is there anyway I can check to see if he has a current FFL? The assault weapon part doesn't concern me too much as I do not want to buy, nor can I, an assault weapon, it just concerned me when it was mentioned.

I would also like to refrain from publicly announcing his name here. If I must over a PM, that is different, but only if I have to.

Thanks, just what I needed. Tomorrow I will call the guy and ask for the number. I have his name, address, phone, etc. so if the FFL comes back as out of date or with mismatched info, I will know to stay away.
