I'm glad everyone feels the same way. I think we have a consensus.

*** In comparing the virtues of various calibers, using hollow point ammo: it is absolutely undeniable that, while a 9 mm or .40 S&W may or may not expand, a .45 will never shrink. ***

you were wrong, and should have asked.
Can you imagine how many idiot marks would be on pistols if everyone just took them apart at their hearts desire?

I know someone who put a pretty big gouge on the frame when putting the slide stop back on a 1911 pistol. I would not want anyone do it to my gun. If you do it on the dealer's gun, he may lose the sale.

I had a friend of mine do the same thing to my brand new S&W Model 41. I pulled it out of the box to show it to him. Went out to the garage to get something, and when I came back in, he was F---ing taking it apart! Luckilly he's good at reading instructions from the manual and didn't mark it up. I still lit him up good!! He's still a friend, but he won't field strip any of my stuff again without asking first. Just common courtesy. c good

Thanks for the responses. I appreciate the feedback. Now I know. I was used to pistols of mine being dissassembled during a PPT or two at the same location. I got complacent thinking that it was common practice. I will apologize to the clerk and remain a loyal customer.

Doing anything to a firearm that is not yours, without asking, is very bad ju-ju.

This is ultra important with C&R firearms.

I have personally witnessed many knuckleheads put dummy scratches on new firearms by takeing down that firearm and it was clear that they had no intention of purchasing that firearm.

I've no interest in C&R firearms.

I wouldn't have taken it down if it were new. There's no need.

Hey OP, good move asking here. I think it is cool that you took the time to check to see if your initial thought process was right or wrong before passing judgement on the shop.

Classy move. A lot of guys would just get snippy and assume they were right with no previous knowledge of the suspect.

                    Now ya know.

Yes you should have asked. What is even worse is that someone with firearms experience was never taught that they should have asked.

Where I work, I don't have to ask to take apart weapons. They tell me when to do it!

Where in my thread did I state that the firearm in question was "new"?
