Need help getting 10/22 back from PD

They say they need a recipt/ 4473, i was told by someone on cal guns to contact the atf, if 2 messages and a text to them over a week ago and no response. We cannot find the original 4473, the gun was purchased in 93 or 94 and the store it was purchased from has been closed for some time now (true outdoorsman). Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I did get my sig 229 back from them already!

Call the CalGuns Foundation ASAP and stop posting here about this incident. if there is any chance the case could be active.

PM to Hoffmang or wildhawker for help.

WTF?? All he is asking about is how he can go about getting his gun returned to him. It's a 10/22, not some gray area rifle.

If you bought the gun via a dealer and then that dealer closed, all of the 4473s are supposed to be returned to ATF. Perhaps a call to them can help you further.

Keep calling. They're all out investigating FFL's supplying the drug cartel. Ya just gotta keep trying.

Don't give up after one call. Keep calling until you get to talk to someone.

Depending on why it was seized will determine when it could be available for release.

If it's evidence then it will be held until after all trials ect. If it was used in a crime it most likely will not be returned.

Regardless of why it was seized. When it was seized you would have been given some sort of property receipt or form. This receipt alone should be sufficient evidence of ownership.

When the gun is available along with a completed and certified Law Enforcement Gun Release you should be able to get it returned to you.

Follow the link below for information on the LEGR process. Only start the LEGR process AFTER you find out the firearm is available for release.

When I had my Glock taken, I had to wait until all charges were dismissed, and then I had to go to the gun store and get my original 4473 AND fill out the DOJ form before I got it back.

They are lying to you. All traces go through ATF. If ATF wanted to do a trace they could. Infact, I've had ATF run traces on firearms when trying to return stolen guns to owners.
