    Joshua Tree & Firearms

Am going camping w/ friends & wanted to know what I can & cannot do regarding a handgun in Joshua Tree. According to their website they are allowed, but I must follow Federal, State, County & local laws. Does anyone know where I can find out what is legal regarding having my pistol w/ me? They only linked the CA-DOJ's website, which was no help at all.

For instance, can I LOC, CCW or am I forced to UOC? or must it be locked up at all times?

I know I'm not supposed to shoot & I am not going to hunt, but the last thing I want is any trouble or to break nay laws.

Any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Why not go to the source and ask them directly? http://www.nps.gov/jotr/contacts.htm

You can ccw AT your campsite, as it is your temporary residence. Don't take my word for it, but it gives you something to look for in your search.

I used to rock climb alot in J Tree and the rangers there are ultra liberal federales. I would be very very careful what you do with guns there. In fact, I would just leave them in my car unloaded at all times.

Kind of defeats the purpose of having them along.......and leaves them open to being stolen FROM your car...

                Joshua Tree & Firearms

                Firearms and Weapons
New firearms law here. Fireworks, traps, bows, BB guns, paint-ball guns, and slingshots are not allowed in the park.

                Firearms
As of February 22, 2010, a new federal law allows people who can legally possess firearms under applicable federal, state, and local laws, to legally possess firearms in this park.

It is the responsibility of visitors to understand and comply with all applicable state, local, and federal firearms laws before entering this park. As a starting point, visit the California Attorney General's website.

Federal law also prohibits firearms in certain facilities in this park; those places are marked with signs at all public entrances.

Great so the answer is ask a ranger who hates guns or try to decipher which laws apply to whatever area I'm at. Will have to study further.

No. Alaric posted a link to all the info the OP needs. For the lazy here's the short story: You can UOC in the NP, and LOC/LCC in your campsite in the NP.
