That type of thing only goes away if you're from Chicago.

The dates stated in the article were pre JD Machine (04-05). I think at that time he was still with Kaiser Defense.

What Jesse Denome did is no different than what 1,000,000 salesmen do everyday all across this country. They find a prospective client, take them out to dinner, buy them presents, treat them nicely in hopes to win over their business. It's called sales tactics. $22k over a course of time is hardly a bribe.

BS - paying/giving/providing money to government employees to get business is a crime. Paying money to get PRIVATE business is not.

Yes, decent bicycles aren't cheap. A full suspension mountain bike(and not the $100 walmart garbage) can easily run $2500-$5000 and up. Some of the front suspension forks alone can run $500-$1000. Then there's road bikes that can get even more expensive sometimes.

The bike shop I work at doesn't carry any bikes below $2000 on the sales floor. Most bikes that people buy in-store from us are around the $3000-5000 range. Our most expensive bikes currently sit at $17000 for a Pinarello Dogma decked out with Di2 and Reynolds wheels, an $11000 Pinarello Graal (The only one in America right now), and a few other really expensive custom bikes.

                  $2000 ain't nothing for a bicycle

So does that make those who pander to gov't unions and welfare recipients for votes criminals?

$11K? Dang. For that kind of money it better pedal by itself!

I hope it works out ok for JD.

Dude, you're a shooter, this is a hobby where a bolt action rifle for $4,000 isn't really obscene. Every hobby has it's extreme when you start looking at the top end and ignore the off-the-shelf product in a lot of stores. There's $1,800 paintball markers, $1,000 pens, $30,000 watches, $2,000 RC cars, $1,000 pocket knives, $900 desktop videocards(that's just the videocard for gaming, not the rest of the system). When you start talking about custom things, or collectibles no longer in production prices can go through the roof.

Sales tactics are one thing. We ALL know that doing a little sucking up keeps the wheels greased with customers/wins them over. hell our sales dept goes and schmoozes our customers but thats their job. but thats private industry and its allowed. What he did is a bribe BECAUSE he did it to government employees. Absolutely NO different than offering the money to a LEO to let you out of a ticket.

Thats not that much. ( granted I dont know much about bikes) but a buddy of mine does a lot of triathalons/iron man stuff and one of his bikes is about 7K. totally custom made for him and that thing is LIGHT. i can pick it up with a finger and hold it. I put it down really slowly when he told me the price.

why no mention of what's happening to the guy who actually took the bribes?
