I just watched a couple episodes of "Sons of Guns" (set in Louisiana) on Discovery channel last night and it got me thinking. In one of the episodes, local SWAT is requesting a door breaching solution and the owner of the shop decides to make a master key system for the team. To my surprise, neither the SWAT consultant nor any of the the shop owner's gunsmiths knew what a master key is! Then, later in the episode, when they are trying to design it, the owner suggests looking at an M203 for mounting ideas, and the gunsmith he's talking to doesn't even know what that is!
This got the ol' hamster wheel spinnin' and it made me think that the intensively restrictive state we live in has forced us to educate ourselves about firearms simply as a recourse to fight the oppression. If this specific shop on the show is indicative of the level of gun knowledge in the free states, I think Californian gun owners (or at least calgunners) seem to be a cut above the rest in terms of knowledge.
Any thoughts? Any personal experience suggest otherwise, or simply further confirm my suspicions?
