I run leight slim electrics on top of ep4's, stoppers in. The muffs do a great job of amplifying normal sounds through the plugs, so you can hear as normal. Then when a shot breaks, you still have double protection.

+1 on the Howard Leight Sports Impact. If your in the Bay Area, go visit PK Safety Supply in Alameda, only $47.00 w/o tax. Tried it out on the range works really great if you have a budget.

What problems did you experience with the Howard Leight?

They seem fairly comparable to me depending on which Pro Ears model your talking about.

Maybe Audio processing is better on the pro ears... But it's not $150 worth of better.

I know the Pro Ears Gold is NRR 35 but cost ~$300 and they are huge.

The Pro Ears Gold are definately worth it IMHO. Howard Leight are cheap made junk compared. If you can only part with $50 then the HL are the winner. It's your hearing which I really don't care about, just giving my opinion . Also why on earth do you care about the size. In this case bigger IS better!

Howard Leight's Impact Sports. Good stuff, cheap.

Double up with plugs at indoor ranges.

We use them because they fit under our helmets really well.

Yeah, I got a pair of Leight's and like them better than my Peltor Tac 6S pair. Nothing crappy about them. They work great. More comfortable and better quality than the Peltors. Definitely double up with ear plugs too.

I am specifically talking about the Pro Ears Gold. I have been thru 3 pairs of the Howard Leight. First 2 pairs were defective I guess or that's just how they perform. The sound was tinny, they were uncomfortable with shooting glasses (huge gap) and the huge joke was the audio input. Try plugging anything into them and it sounds like someone is talking to you with 2 cans and a piece of string. I'm on the third replacement and I have given up trying to get these to work for me. They just sit in my shooting bag now for a friend or for back up to my Pro Ears. I would love to sell them (they are new) for $25 bucks any takers??

That's better "you are not sure they are worth that much." Get both and try them, you'll see the difference clearly. If they dont work for you great, you save $250!
