    Shooting with Bifocals

I just had my eyes checked and my doctor is putting me in bifocals (really, progressive lenses) to help me see up close.

I'm not sure how it will affect my shooting so I'm curious if anyone had something similar happen to them.

Also, has anyone been shooting with multi-focal contact lenses? I was looking into that as well.

I have progressives as well. I can shoot with them fine but I went another route.

I talked with my eye doctor and she had some tinted shooting glasses made for me that move my eye focus, i.e. not progessive....the actual magnification, so I can see while shooting. Works fine for me. YMMV.

I too have progressive lenses. I find myself bobbing my head to find the sweet spot of the lens as to see the front sight clearly. Definately more of a challenge, especially with rifle shooting. Difficult to get my head in the correct position for sighting.

I like the idea above, to get a prescription for the needed sighting distance.

        Re: Shooting with Bifocals

I shoot with progressive lenses. Generally, works fine but I do have to tip my head back a little when shooting my handgun. I don't have a problem at all with any of my rifles. I'm thinking about getting a set of shooting glasses made where the focus point is moved up a little higher.

I'd say see how they work for you first and then go from there.

Progressives for me. I had them move the prescription "up", so the distance portion of the lens is only the top third (or there abouts).

Yeah, that's why I had them made. I was getting frustrated finding the right
spot on the lenses. Made shot recovery kinda tough.

I have bifocals with the traditional line. I just made sure the magnification part was low enough that I didn't get it in the sight picture.

Is this a geriatric shooting thread? Saddle holster for a walker? Earplugs, just turn your hearing aids off, lol.
Since I fall into this old geezer category, I'll chime in. I wear my work safety glasses for shooting that are progressive. I never thought about it but I guess I do the old head bobbing thing depending on the task at hand, my glasses must be perfectly aligned because while shooting a rifle, I make no adjustments.
For close up shooting, I tend to tilt my head up a little. I am near sighted, don't know how much difference that makes, I imagine the far sighted folks can just switch to clear glass while shooting at longer ranges.

Bifocals are a curse in my opinion. I use just a non prescription shooting glasses for my shooting and it works okay. It works better when I shoot a scoped rifle or rifle with an aperture rear sight like a match rear sight for an M-1A.

                    I wear trifocals for shooting.

I had shooting glasses made with the front sight distance raised up on the dominant eye so the front sight is in focus.

I have to tilt my head back a little, not much.

The bottom of both lenses are reading prescription, so I can load the magazines and fiddle with the gun if need be.

Top is distance so I can see if anybody is at the range with me.

I have a set of reverse bifocals for shooting. Imagine turning your glasses upside down and you have the idea. The up close portion is a bit smaller than on the my regular set of glasses.
