AK is it love or hate?

I needed to get my mind off things this morning so I decided to go give some love to some of my guns. I spent about 2 hours cleaning a few rifles and pistols. Then I walked up to the safe to put one back to get another, next inline was the AK47. I hesitated for a moment, then picked it up, racked it a few times and put it back with out as much as a patch down the barrel. And this wasn't the first time. Does this make me a lover or a hater?

    Neglector.
My AK is the redheaded stepchild of the safe too.

My $1000+ AK get's a good cleaning and is more of a Safe queen than anything else, my Saiga's get a bore cleaning from time to time and bolt cleaning every 2 years or so.

So are you a bad dad no.. you have to treat rifles like how they should be treated AR are prom queens and AK's a bad *** biker chicks that open beers with their teeth!

I clean all guns, including the most rugged rifle of all (AK-47).

Ak's are like bic lighter that never run out of fuel. Just use and abuse.

I keep going back and forth between AKs and ARs.... I own both. Too indecisive, I was loving my new draco till it didnt extract at all, no clue why either, think some cosmoline got gummed up in the gas block.

I have NEVER had an AK-47. I can never tell you if it is good or bad. But, based on my experience with Russian and Chinese full auto AK's, I don't mind having one of those.

Like anything else, you respond to incentives. Since you know that the AK will work regardless of its state of cleanliness, you're more likely to spend your time doing something else.

Now if you had just fired corrosive ammo through that day, I bet you would have at least swabbed that thing out with windex!

I love 'em for what they are, and don't attempt to make them into what they aren't

A good factory or careful individual built AK in 7.62 x 39 will last forever without much needed in the way of parts replacement, other than the recoil spring and maybe mag springs.

Much easier to deal with than the AR platorm, I've got a pretty good sized fishing tackle box of spares for the AR, and I've gone through a bunch over the years.

Never have had to do that with AK's even with similar round counts under the same conditions.

If the rear sight was closer to my eye, the thing would be almost perfect (yeah, I know, Valmet, Galil, aftermarket)
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

Hate is such a ugly word, I prefer disinterest.

AR's are like Barbie, appealing to the eye and accessories abound! AK's are like Rosie O' Donnell, not appealing to the eye and won't stop for nothin'.

                        Plus the KoolAid tastes better!

I'm sure that you will be able to "aquire" a parts kit at some point. When you do, we'll get you a flat, center support, rivets and any US parts that you need. Then, it'll take a long day in the hills and you should have one.

AFAIC, they are much more fun to build than to shoot.

Ak's made by good manufacturers are hard to come by here in Kommifornia. If you get your hands on one (or a well built 80% and or parts kit one), I guarantee that no matter which side of the Ak 'love or hate' you would be on, you'll appreciate the awesomeness of the AK-47.

Love my AK, such a good bit of engineering with a cult following (pun unintended, I hope) to boot. Can't help but admire it, and at the same time realize how many the world has changed as a result of it.
