    Winchester Safe (Costco)

Does anyone know what happens when the battery gets low or drains from the control panel? I had tried to put a new battery in but the control panel will completely blank out. How is one supposed to replace the battery before it goes dead?

I'm not speaking as an authority on the matter but it seems to me that when you disconnect and replace the battery, the lock goes into a 30 minute lockout mode.

Beyond that, you should probably replace the battery on an annual, or better yet, semi-annual basis. Sort of like a smoke detector. They're not that expensive.

Replacing it on a schedule m ake sense but you may also want to ook at the "10 year" "ultralife" batteries. Forget who makes them but they seem to last a while. Haven't hoit 10 years yet but it may last more than a few years. I put them in all my smoke detectors a few yers ago and they are still running. It costs more though.

Not sure what you mean by blank out? I just replaced the battery in mine last week after 13 months of use. It beeped several times after typing in the correct code to let me know it needed replacing. Thought that was a good feature rather than just locking me out altogether with no warning. I had a spare battery ready to go, but I decided to try opening and closing the safe about 10 more times just to see how many times I could open it after the warning. It worked each try (some with a warning chime after, some without).

I was surprised to get 13 months on one battery considering I open the safe at least once or twice a day.

Id be more concerned about the effects of battery acid leaking onto the circuitry and how that gets effected.
Im a genuine E-thug, because talking s**t in person is dangerous.
