    Basic Firearms Handgun Courses

    Good evening, guys!

I'm looking for any recommendations of these courses for me. I'm almost a handgun owner, I've got my pistol on layaway and won't be paying in full 'til maybe 2-3 weeks. I was going to take one of these classes after I got it but think I'll just take it now. Is this a "take it wherever" type of thing or are their truly benefits of taking these courses at one place over another? I was looking at OC indoor shooting range's lesson since it's a solid price over Raauhauges in Corona but now that I compare the length of the course, Raauhauges appeals to me a bit more. I'd love to suck in as much knowledge on this as possible, can anyone vouch for either or recommend me a place around Chino, CA? Thanks for your time.

Ah, I've heard of that one. Pretty far for me and a little more than I want to pay for, though. Anyone else??

Look into basic NRA pistol courses, the will be the best bang for the buck for introduction into basic shooting and safe gun handling. After you got the saftey and basics down, then research some of the more advanced options.

Turner's has an alright class for the basics. They provide a 9mm Glock 17 if you don't bring a gun. They teach pistol and revolver. Just keep in mind that this is the basics. Don't expect to be a marksman when you finish. They will roughly be telling you how the laws work and they've dumbed them down considerably so people don't get themselves into trouble before doing their research.

I couldn't take his course based on moral reasons.

I'd suggest looking up a NRA training course to get you started.

Since your new to firearms I would say take the basic firearms class offered at Turners. After some practice if you feel like like advancing to tactical/defensive shooting take a look at Civilian Arms Training (http://www.civilianarmstraining). They hold their classes at Prado in Chino Hills.

Ahh, looks like they are the ones that host the one at Raahagues(under recreational handgun). The "general handgun" costs are wayy up there for me haha but does look good.

Oh absolutely, I understand I won't be a marksman afterward. I built bad habits with my rifle that I'm still correcting so I want to make sure I learn the handgun properly. Most important part for me is that I'm holding it correctly and that I'm not jerking the trigger.

Do they teach you how to fix failures with the Turner's/FTA basic class?

My own morals. After the OC sheriff race I'd rather not give him any money or attention. Of course, this is just me and my opinion.

Looking at FTA's website info for the basic class I would say no it does not cover how to fix failures. Looks like it does in the general handgun course.

I've never taken any of the classes offered by FTA but I've taken several courses with Civilian Arms and do enjoy them. Their level 1 defensive handgun course is $140 + $20 range fee so that might be more in your budget too.

Hmmm..from what I'm reading, it seems like the C.A.T. covers FTA's basic class plus stoppages and a lot of other defensive drills/lessons. I may have to shell out the green for this
Although if I go with that, I need some accessories I wasn't planning on getting (holster, pouch)

The basic class at fta is geared towards people new to guns and is just the basics. The general course shows you great techniques and is gunsite training. Bill Murphy is a sr gunsite instructor, FBI, marsoc, owns the surefire training institute, certified badass

Basic pistol training at OC Indoor range is compatible to NRA basic pistol class, which covers basic marksmanship. You also get to shoot some different types of guns during live fire portion.

After that, my recommendation is FTA at Raahauges. CATS is ok, but I'd recommend FTA. Another class I can recommend is TJ Johnston from All safe defence.
