Magazines with capacities greater than 10 rounds can not be purchased, imported, or offered for sale in CA. Only if you owned them prior to the ban can you have them. However, if you had magazines owned prior to the CA ban, then you may repair any of their components with a rebuild kit.

The laws regarding AW and OLL's are quite complex. Take time learning them so you can repeat them if necesary. Click on the tab above that is labeled AW and OLL guide.
Long story short, your weapon can not be a named weapon on the list. (you will need to check whether yours is on this list) If it is not, then you will need to install a bullet button and may only use ten round magazines.

Some others will chime in about your shotgun.

I think the shotgun is GTG. Also, are you moving to the City of LA or LA county? City of LA has the restrictions; most, if not all, of the incorporated cities in LA county don't have them.

I'm looking at places around Santa Monica/Culver City, not directly in LA.

That pretty much sums up my understanding....except the disassembly of the XDM mags. I must have missed that somewhere. Please explain.

It's illegal for you to bring large capacity magazines with you to CA [PC 12020(a)(2)].

It is legal for you to bring magazine parts to CA.
So, you can legally dissassemble your large capacity magazines into parts and bring those parts to CA. While in CA you can not legally assemble those parts into large capacity magazines, but you can legally assemble those parts into permanent 10 round magazines.

If you want to use your XDm-9 in CA, you will have to modify your magazines into permanent 10 rounds magazines, since they do not make 10 round XDm-9 magazines.

Penal Code 12020
(a) Any person in this state who does any of the following is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year or in the state prison:
(2) Commencing January 1, 2000, manufactures or causes to be manufactured, imports into the state, keeps for sale, or offers or exposes for sale, or who gives, or lends, any large-capacity magazine.
(c)(25) As used in this section, "large-capacity magazine" means any ammunition feeding device with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds, but shall not be construed to include any of the following:
(A) A feeding device that has been permanently altered so that it cannot accommodate more than 10 rounds.
(B) A .22 caliber tube ammunition feeding device.
(C) A tubular magazine that is contained in a lever-action firearm.

couple points.
as for the AK, I am sorry for your loss. Its gotta stay out of CA. There are people who say a disassembled rifle doesn't meet the definitions of an AW and those people would tell you to disassemble it into parts and never assemble it while in CA. Its not worth it in my book.

as for the XD, magazines are expensive here since this is a post 1/1/2000. You might be able to walk to a corner store and buy them. Not so here. I would buy as many as possible. Keep some disassembled to use outside of CA as large capacity, and limit a few for range use while in CA. Don't assume you will be able to buy here.

as for the SKS....WTF is that on the muzzle? I am not up on my C&R gear. Just vomiting this out there...if its a launcher of any kind thats a DD in CA and illegal.

Hah yeeeaaah, I can't really choose were my job is located sadly. Either way I'm not too worried about it. I usually try not to share my fondness of guns with people that I don't trust or know well enough. Ironically, here I am. That approach hasn't failed me yet though.
