I have a friend who goes to Jackson Arms and he asked the people there and they did not know anything about it! Does not look like they are closing anytime soon.

I contacted them. No info on when they're closing, but indicated the hope to be up and running in their new location in February.

True. They are hoping to transition to the new facility with minimum down time. At leaset that's what I heard.

I was just there Fri night picking up a PPT'd Ruger 44Mag single action.

They were doing fine. I think they may have a new spot identified/permitted before they get the boot so there might be minimal downtime.

I asked the guy (a kid really) at the front counter about them moving. He said the property owner where they are raised the rent by about 3x. They are looking to buy a very large building a little south near Costco and do up a very high quality range.

This sounds very expensive and time consuming so we'll see when they actually get that accomplished.

I hope they come further south. I hated driving all the way up there to their range.



p.s. Berg, I finally bought a K31 mag but still haven't shot the rifle yet. Think that thing is going to end up a safe queen.

Their new location will be on the 100 block of Utah Ave, still in South City, but on the other side of the freeway. I was told by Javier that in the new place, some Rifle calibers will be permitted (he named .223 specifically, when I mentioned my sks, he said he wasnt sure)

OK so they won't be too far, good.

223 rifles allowed? Yessssssssssssss!!! Though given indoor confines, shorter ranges and backstop issues they might require nylon-tipped 223 ammo (Federal TAP, etc.) - not sure.

The new range in Vacaville allows rifles. Though it's funny cause they allow 30-06 but not things like some .223 because they have a 3000fps limit, not a size limit. Some guy was sighting in a 30-06 last time I was there. It is VERY loud in an indoor setting.

I went to Jackson Arms last week together with Treelogger and it was a pretty good experience. Staff was very nice and helpful ( otoh, I measure by my first trip to Reeds, so I guess anyone will come out as nice ).

If the new range will be as good as they say, I'll definitely get a membership.

They said they still weren't sure if the new range will allow rifle calibers though.

That's sort of odd...some .223 is <3000fps.

Jackson Arms used to allow .223 to be fired a few years ago, but only using plastic points. Man, did they jam in my friend's Bushmaster!

I was waiting on the move for January, but they had to push back--sucks to hear about the rent being the reason for the move, but hopefully this new range will be worthwhile for them.

So if the range moves to Utah St, are SF residents really going to be going to shooting their handguns there? After all, handguns are now banned in SF for all SF residents. Bogus!

I just can't see the range catering to out-of-towners. I don't know how many locals go to SF to shoot handguns. I know I don't.
