I am searching for a decent scope and I know there are quite a few different brands out there. I have a Rem 700 VTR and I am thinking about a 6-24x50 I have done my homework and I am finding that Weaver makes a few very nice high quality scopes and I know that Leupold is probably the first on everyones list. I have seen the quality on Leupold's entry level and they seem very clear as does the Weaver. I have stumbled across another brand called Alpen and so far they seem to get pretty good reviews and are reasonably priced they also have a very clear veiw. I am just throwing this one out there to see what the general feedback is. I am sorry if this is a repeat question but I am just looking for a little help.

I have a couple Bushnell Elite 3200 series scopes on my bolt actions. 3-9x 40mm and a 4-12x 40mm. They have been excellent for the price.***Honesty is the Foundation of One's Character***
*** In comparing the virtues of various calibers, using hollow point ammo: it is absolutely undeniable that, while a 9 mm or .40 S&W may or may not expand, a .45 will never shrink. ***

dont get real high magnification 4x14x42 will get you 800 +yards no problem. glass quality is going to be more important then power. lern your rifle you will prefer less magnification, trust me. spend more money on glass then any other accessory, stick to zeiss conques, leupold vxiii or better.you will end up there any ways .so do it right from the get go.you cant hit what you cant see clear
sigpic I said I didn"t have much use for one, didn"t say I didn"t know how to use it. MATTHEW QUIGLEYComment

The clarity is what I have been keeping as my basis in my search. I have been blown away by the Leupold and now that I have seen this Alpen I have to say it is crystal clear as well. The only thing with the 6-24 is that it has the side focus and the external turrets which is something I have come to appreciate over my other scopes. I would say that I am between the three right now Leupold, Weaver and Alpen. Thank you all for the insight and more info on this the better.Comment

alpen might be clear but is it field tested.not sure.look thrue them at dusk and dawn and mirage effect .my money is on zeiss. leupold out of those three.

Decide what your budget is and intended purpose of your new scope. Then it will be easier for you to decide. It will help others on the forum make their recommendations easier too. The better glass on the market is going to cost more than the average Weaver or off brand.Comment
