...just spoke to the lovely Beatriz E. Valenzuela from the Daily Press in beautiful, Victorville, Calif. I called the main number at 760-241-7744 got transfered to her and asked her about the incorrect information she noted in her article. She stated that the arresting department mentioned these charges and she was only reporting what she had been told. She also stated that he was arrested for possession of a high capacity magazine. She talked over me a number of times and also stated she was in the process of contacting the Army and these weapons belonged to the Army. I tried to help her out by stating none of the arms in question were in fact illegal as reported, including possession of a high capacity magazine. I let her know I wasn't mad, just wanted to correct her spreading of misinformation and untruth.

I know it's not stated in the article, but doesn't dishonorable discharge make you ineligible for firearm possession? I seem to recall there being a line about that on the 4473 form.Beretta PX4 Storm .40 S&W (Round Count 3,050) | Yugo M72 | Romy M44

A dishonorable discharge is the military equivalent of a felony. The article mentions that he was wounded, so his discharge status likely isn't a factor here. It seems like it will turn out that his only problem is that he brought home magazines.Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

How can I post a response to this rag? All I'm getting are links to Myface, Spacebook and Tweeter. I'm trying to post the following.
It has been two days since this poorly checked story was offered up.
Even the NYT fixes their mistakes faster than this.
Who was the new boyfriend? An "official"?
A wounded veteran being railroaded with bogus charges is one way to attract the attention of the Pulitzer committee.
However, the story as written would be an embarassment to the Pennysaver. It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.Comment

I sent the writer and the editor an email. It's quite possible he did steal a weapon and mags from the Army, and if so, the Sheriff just gave the writer the wrong info which is ENTIRELY possible.OCSD Approved CCW Instructor

The writer emailed me back and said there was a clarification letter posted along side the article. Here is what it reads:
This sounds right, and she got her names and terminology correct. I sent her another email stating I was a member of CGN and that she was welcome to join to learn, ask questions, or attend any group shoots. Hopefully she does join.Clarification 01-19-11:
In the article “Military weapons seized” which ran on Jan. 17, information from San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials stated several military-grade weapons were seized from a Hesperia home. Some of the items taken from the home were Army property, according to sheriff’s officials. Army representatives were scheduled to pick up their stolen property from the Hesperia sheriff’s station this week.
An M-15 assault rifle, a ballistic helmet and vest, a Kel Tec P-32 semi-automatic pistol and a Mac-11 machine pistol were also found at the home.
Authorities confirmed the Mini-14 previously listed was not a military weapon but modifications made to several weapons prompted investigators to seize a variety of firearms.
Sheriff’s Bomb and Arson investigators have confirmed all but two of the weapons are illegal to own and are looking into the last two due to attachments and modifications.
