How often do gun ranges clean their rentals?

Do they clean them after each rental, each week? Just curious. Thanks.

The last time I rented a 686 it seemed that they cleaned it once per month.

Bwahahaha... Rental guns..... Bwhaha... Cleaned?..... Bwahaha....

Seriously, most of the ranges I frequent say they do it once a month. Some seem to be used more than others though. Oaktree had an HK usp 45 that I think only got cleaned at each solstice.

I think the bottom line is not enough. I dont think ive ever had a rental with oil on it even a $2k Wilson combat.

I would never buy an old range gun

Not often, I rented a glock at the range I always go to and it was so dirty it had trouble chambering a round, 2-3 times per magazine it would just hang up with the round halfway in the chamber.

Almost never until customers start complaining that they're not working.

I ask the same question to the dude at Insight. He said the whole firearms inventory are divided into 3 sections and they will clean one section a month, so I assumed that their guns gets cleaned ones in every 3 months.

They clean them when customers complain.

I mentioned that beretta 92FS was light-striking in DA, he puts the gun aside and mentions.. oh I guess its time to clean it...

depends. I've seen a guy drop a gun he rented off at the counter and someone else said they wanted to rent it, the guy told him they had to clean it first. I asked if they clean after every session and he said yes, for liability reasons.

I've seen someone else be handed a gun that had just gotten off the firing line. the guy even remarked "wow, it's all warmed up for me". I looked at the rentals and most had powder residue on the slide and muzzle.

I'd personally only rent guns that had been cleaned. Otherwise, how do you know what's happened to it? If it's been cleaned, it's likely that it was inspected too. If i'm going to pay to borrow a gun, it better not give me any problems....

I'd agree with that. Their Savage bolt- .22 was barely usable when I went, and when i told them so, they apologized and said the cleaning rotation was coming up...at least they actually do clean them, I guess haha

Worked for a range some years ago and the lesser used rentals were cleaned once a week. The most rented were cleaned as needed, but with little downtime it was hard to get them onto the bench. At worst I would say that two weeks was about the longest any of them went without a cleaning and inspection.

I wouldn't worry as long as they are cleaned as often as my own... which is once every 4-5 trips (or every 400-1000 rounds).

The only liability concern that I would have if I owned a range is that returns are checked for squibs before being rented out again.

I worked at a range for a few years. I cleaned the rentals right after somebody checked them back in. Sometimes the Glock 17 would get rented several times a day, and I cleaned it every time. During slow times, I would clean all the rentals, just in case another worker missed something. It was therapeutic for me though as I enjoy cleaning guns. I think other workers thought of it as a chore, but I liked keeping busy.
