CA gun shows

Just moved back to CA after the vast majority of my gun owning life so far took place in AZ. I've been to many Crossroads shows in AZ and NV but never in CA. I'm planning on going to the show in Del Mar next weekend but I have a few questions. Are off roster hand guns typically available? Are bulk ammon costs lower than online+shipping? Should I wait and try to buy my upper assembly there for hope of better pricing and selection? What is the approximate size of the show, vendors, customers, and lookie loos? Are any discounts other than the $1 off coupon available? Any particular vendors that offer good product, service, and pricing I should keep an eye out for? Thanks for the input!!

All my answers would point you toward NOT going to the California Crossroads Gunshow. I suppose there's always the freak occurences where you may come across something good.. but it would just be a fluke.

It's great if you want to buy a knockoff Ruger T-shirt, renew your NRA membership, get some beef jerky, and acquire a new leather cell phone cover. As for guns... nah, don't bother.

I always find something interesting at the gun show, despite all the airsoft, jerkie, and glass figurines that you want to blow up with a 12ga

Coldwar Shooters has been at every CoW show I've been too at the OC fairgrounds.

I would buy directly from them to save on shipping =P

Yeah I know it's good for glass figurines, beef jerky, etc... Do you ever see any off roster handguns or cheap bulk ammo? I will most likely go to check it out...and get some jerky..and see what's up with Cold War Shooters I suppose. That's a shame to hear this because I usually find something good at most shows I attend...got a great deal on a S&W 57 at my last AZ show. Thanks for the input though!

+1 on Cold War Shooters. It's worth it going to the show just to see what they have to offer and they'll set you up with "almost" everything you want.

Save your money. Its not worth it with gas and admission prices.

NOTHING will compare to the AZ shows, so if you're thinking along those lines, don't bother. That said, the OC show is usually pretty good (long lines, though), and if you sift through all the venders, you can find some pretty good deals. As for ammo, it's been my experience that it's better to buy at a show (Miwall or Ammo Bros) than through the internet. Some people like the Ventura County show (I do!) because it's cooler (the beach is great), and smaller, but remember, the selection will be smaller. You will certainly find more AK and AR stuff at the Orange Co. show than any other one in SoCal. As for the other shows (Glendale, etc) go if you have the urge, but usually they're not worth it, IMHO

powder, primers, dies , and the occasional milsurp. also coldwar shooters for OLL type of things.

I don't look for handguns when I go, and I didn't see too many anyhow.

yep, I nailed a swiss Schmidt-Rubin 1911 for a pretty good price; freind got a a very nice unmolested russian SKS with this really beautiful dark cherry red stock for about $275

Some lucky bastard got the primo-condition non-defaced Kyuukyuu-Shiki(T-99) Arisaka with bayonet for $300

Well I need an upper, a new safe maybe, a new revolver, and some ammo so I think I'll check it out. I may only leave with beef jerky and a leather cell phone case but I only live 10 minutes from Del Mar Fairgrounds so I just gotta go!! Hopefully I'll find a good score...I'll go early Saturday morning!!
