    Do you guys think that.........

sometimes all the tactical stuff people hang from their weapons give them a false sense of security? I know a few guys who have all sorts of sights and widgets and bats**ts hanging off their rifles but still cant shoot to save their lives. I know there are people who train and know how to use their weapons correctly but those are not the people that i am talking about.
I'm talking about the people who think that due to the equipment they have it gives them the feeling of Im ready etc
Sort of I have a fast car and been driving for a year so I would be able to drive it like a professional driver on a race track.

Well I dont know about a false sense of security, but I see guys with laser, flashlights, single point slings, adjustable stocks, full length quad rails on 16" carbine systems...and they bench shoot.

I am not sure if its their "go-to" rifle or not, but seems stupid to me to bench shoot a CQB rifle.

I also love when some guy walks up to me at the range and says I need to take a shooting class because my groups suck... 5-6MOA at 50 yards. That is great for a CQB group.

and before the mall ninjas comment on grouping...if you think Chris and Travis grouped any better then 4MOA doing this...you are wrong

I never understood the whole "tactical" addon thing. Only things like that I have bought are a light for my handgun and a light for my shotgun so I can see what I am pointing them at.

Other than having some fun playing tactical on the open range, the only reason I see to having all the bells, whistles and slings would be during a full SHTF armageddon event that required you to hit the road running.

                So, to each their own.

I am in Iraq and there are people out here that do the same thing. A large number of them are people that never leave the FOB. In my mind, anything more than a good sight, reliable sling, and a fore grip are all that are really needed. This is just my opinion though.

If you need to "hit the road running" you are going to want the lightest rifle you can get. Any extra weight should be water and ammo. Going long distances with full kit gets tiring fast, the lighter the better.

It's an absolute truth - in America, ownership denotes expertise.

In the case of firearms, I can't tell you how many times a guy has purchased some high-end precision rifle, and then comes to me to "help" him sight it in, only to find out he wants me to sight it in for him (...) and sometimes hasn't even wanted to be there when I did it! ("too busy")

In the case of atas AR's it's just as bad - guys I know that have to have KNS pins, that don't shoot a 1K rounds a year...through every gun they own, combined.

I always think of it this way - when the guy gets bored with his toy, I may be able to pick it up on the cheap, and it's happened often enough to justify my belief.
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

I love that one as well.

I can take a properly built rifle, with proper ammo, sit down or lay down, shoot at my leisure, and shoot tight groups - this is what you do for fun.

When you shoot for real, or practice for it, the object of the excercise is hits on target - groups don't mean anything!

The real funny thing is when you're practicing quick and dirty shooting and getting better "groups" than the guy next to you who can't shoot minute-of-man up close with deliberate fire.

                              Who knows?

Some guys like to bling out their trucks, some their guns, some their horses.

I don't see anything wrong with it as long as the bling doesn't get in the way, and cause problems.

                              Sometimes, less is more.

I'm personally not a bling kind of guy, but to each his own
