    Another AB962 question

The guy at Wal-Mart selling ammo is convinced that you will not be able to buy ammo out of state and bring it back home in California. This Alice Cooper look-a-like is so serious about it, its causing me to second guess myself.

    Did I miss something?

One thing he says I find comical, "they (the government) will check for ammo coming into the state (of California) at the fruit check points."

Nothing I have read in the law prohibits anyone that is legally allowed to be in possession of ammunition, from bringing ammunition purchased out of state back to California. Nor is there a limit to how much you can bring back with you. Right?

Sorry in advance. I just rather be safe then sorry and make sure I didn't miss anything in the law regard this.

    Thanks.

There was just a thread on this last week. Is it some kind of spam email people keep forwarding?

I have no idea. I just think its people not taking the time to read the law. And just passing on hear-say without checking facts. I figure that some guy working at Wal-Mart is a poor source for information on laws. But he is so convinced himself that it caused me to second guess myself. I reread the law and I can't find anything to support his claim.

As I understand you can drive out of state. Buy yourself ammunition and bring it with you back into California. I just wanted to make sure I didn't either overlook anything or misinterpreted the law.

Here we go again. Why are people so inclined to talk to Wal-Mart employes about gun and ammo laws. Why even get into a conversation with them? Just buy your ammo and leave, no need to second guess yourself. You have the internet, look up the laws and listen to no one.

But the guy at Wal-Mart looked like Alice Cooper. Who wouldn't listen to Alice Cooper?

I wish there was a AB962 FAQ listed somewhere. If there is I haven't been able to find it.

There is no such law. Load up your vehicle with tons of ammo and drive all over creation. The Agricultural screening guys don't care about your ammo. No one cares about driving ammo over state lines. No one will know about it.

Unless you're arrested for serial murder and the sheriff lays out your "Arsenal of high powered assault rifles and handguns and thousands of rounds of cop killing ammo" on the table for the news cameras. And all the sheep at home get scared and hug their children. Even then the ammo is not illegal unless you're a prohibited class.

We gun owners have been beaten down so long by stupid, stupid laws that we tend to see stupid gun laws even where there aren't any. It's a variety of PTSD I think. California Gun Law Stress Disorder. There has to actually be a law against something for it to be illegal.

I could understand wanting to take advice from Alice Cooper, but if he was actually working at WalMart it would destroy all his credibility for me.

Thanks, but there is no mention of going out of state. Buying ammunition and bringing it back into California.

Since I don't see anything regarding this in the law, one would have to assume that there are no laws governing such actions.

So it is lawful to purchase ammunition out of state and bring it back into California.

I just wanted to make sure that I had not over looked it.

If a law is silent on something, then there are no changes. Buying ammo out of state is entirely legal.

Thanks. I appreciate your help. I pretty much came to the same conclusion you had pointed out.

I do very much agree about people adding to the law or making up new laws. It causes a lot of unnecessary confusion.
