Interesting that the Southeast is pretty far down there. Seems like there is more of a correlation between socioeconomic factors and crime than gun ownership.

If only those who represent us in government would see that as well.

Here in CA, I feel like criminals feel like they can break into any home at anytime as the odds the person is a gun owner is so slim. You can also mug everyone because no one (almost) is allowed to CCW here.

          need input.

the numbers of people, and of dead, and the % number, but does this include suicides? accidental deaths (aka just cleaning the gun, kids playing?) or is this just murders?
how is the number of dead counted? what is included and NOT included?

not to be nit-picky but i feel posting the reason of death by one using a gun should be posted including gang related, drugs, etc, accidental, family problems, truly crazy.
by not posting all the reasons behind the death one can not say for sure in what way the death's happened. and by posting how the death did happen we as a pop can say see there is no need to ban guns of this type or style or mag limit etc. or to have a 10 day wait for your legal owned property, or to sign a paper (and leave a fingerprint) to buy a box of ammo.

maybe some one out there has all this data if so were can i find it please.

Its a silly list, they fail to mention the fact that AZ is the superhighway for drug runners WHO HAVE GUNS!!!!!!! Talk about tunnel vision. **** your list.

Interesting stats in the article, given that we've had about 15.2K homicides in this country in 2009 (per FBI unified crime report: http://www2.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2009/data/table_01.html). This is the total number of homicides, committed by using guns, sticks, knives, cars, bare hands, etc. This works out to the overall rate of 5 per 100,000. 67% of those were committed using a firearm, which works out to about 3.33 per 100,000 nationwide. Compare it to the data in the article...

Even if they use the total numbers of deaths where a gun was used (justifiable homicides, suicides, etc.), they're still way off; and using those metrics to pad their numbers is dishonest to begin with.

WISQARS has most of it - see above. The article says just murders-with-firearms were used (my figures above are "all murders", so here are the FBI figures for that, 2007, again sorted on the last column, rate/100K)

Don't know why Florida and DC are missing from the FBI data.)

As to identifying "gang related, drugs, etc, accidental, family problems, truly crazy", that frequently isn't known. FBI does 'special' info releases on murders from time to time. Usually we get this: http://www2.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2009/off.../homicide.html
