Question about pistol grips on rifles...

If a rifle is imported with a thumbhole stock can it be changed to a pistol grip stock legally in CA?

Specifically: The HK USC rifle. Can a pistol grip stock be sold/purchased and installed in CA legally?

A thumbhole stock and a pistol grip are essentially the same thing. They are both "evil features" so changing one out for the other on a CA compliant rifle is nothing to worry about.

Thumbhole stocks on imported semi-auto rifles are typically there to allow the firearm to be imported into the U.S. as a "sporting" firearm. Changing out the thumbhole stock to a regular pistol grip configuration can bring up 922(r) issues if you care about that kind of thing.

I always forget about 922(r)...I think the Feds have too.
