C&R Sales Question

I have done some searching around for info, but it seems that I can never find a clear answer or I get conflicting answers.

Here's the deal....I have an old bolt action rifle that I want to sell. It was made in the early 1950's (don't remember exactly what year), so it should be C&R, right?

To sell this rifle, am I required by law to conduct the transaction through a dealer or can I simply trade rifle for cash on my own?

If the rifle is at least 50 years old then you can sell it "cash and carry" to another California resident who is at least 18 years of age as long as you have no knowledge or reason to believe that they are a prohibited person.

No paperwork, no background check, no FFL involvement, no DROS, no waiting period required for this type of transfer.
