Is it Worth Drive To Phoenix Gun Show

Hello- Long time lurker, first time poster here.

I go to the local Roadrunner So Cal shows but am interested is seeing what AZ may have to offer. Especially in Ammo, as I am thinking with the new law re: handgun ammo sales that we may see prices go up at the local shows.

Interested in reload stuff and ammo.

Maybe a new pistol for good measure.

For ammo, the same people that sell at your local shows are there at the AZ shows.

Even if they do write down your license plate, they can't do anything, unless they saw you buy a bunch of hi cap magazines and toss them in the trunk and drive back across into CA without taking them apart first. And AZ isn't gonna give a crap.

There's one guy on this forum who claimed they pulled his buddy over on the freeway using a helicopter that landed in the middle of traffic, so take these stories with a grain of salt

What's the point in spending $50-100 in gas back and forth. Can't buy any gun there you can't buy here. Buy all the high caps you want, but you can't re-assemble them here anyway. If you need "rebuild" kits (lol) order them online and you will pay less anyway.

Under federal law, if you buy a pistol outside your State of residence, it must be shipped to an FFL in your State of residence. The FFL will then do the transfer in accordance with both federal law and the law of your State of residence (i. e., 4473, etc.). You would be committing a federal felony if you were to simply take the handgun and transport it to your State of residence, even in the case of a private party transfer. (18 USC 922(a)(3))

And since your State of residence is California, any handgun will have to be on the roster or exempt from the roster. Otherwise a California FFL will not do the transfer.

What makes you think you can buy a new pistol in Arizona?

Stay home and attend the local gun show for ammo and powder. For reloading components just order online.

And on top of taking the time to drive, the gas money, shipping, and the transfer fee from the FFL, there goes any potential savings you got at the gun show right out the window.

The ammo vendors are going to be the same people, and you can order reloading components online if you don't want to get them from the local shop/show. Unless you're going to one of the big shows to look around at all the neat toys, it's pointless.

Of course, even if the Phoenix gun show isn't a good reason to visit Arizona, it's still a nice place. I enjoy fairly regular trips there. Years ago, I used to go to compete at Winter Range (Cowboy Action Shooting), and my more recent trips have been for shooting classes.

Massad Ayoob is teaching a class in March in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Personally, I think that would be a better reason for a road trip to Arizona than the Phoenix gun show.

Yeah, I'd only do it if going to the gun show was a secondary reason for going to AZ. Heck, you sound pretty curious about it, so why not make a weekend getaway or something for it?

I go to the Reno show once a year to look at the stuff I can't buy here. Great fun, and casinos too! You will find ammo, reloading components, chinese scopes, web gear, t-shirts, and of course beef jerky.
