    Shooting Competitions

I am looking to try out a shooting competition. I don't even know where to get started. From finding a place to go to, to what is involved.

    Semi-Automatic pistol

    I live in Merced County.

    Any help?

I'm not sure what ranges are in your area, but as for matches. If you don;t have that much experience with handgun shooting.. I'd start out with PPC (Police Pistol, Combat) matches before you try to get into the more involved 'shoot-N-scoot' type of matches.

Look up Oakdale Sportsmans club on the internet. They have a USPSA "fun" match on the first sunday of the month. You just need the gun, a few mags, and ammo. You can start with the gun on a barrel and lay out your mags on other barrels. We have people use .22's, .380's and etc. No holsters needed. Its a fun match! Its designed for the new shooter. Very low key and a bunch of friendly folks. I've been shooting there for over 15 yrs.

They also have a full on rock and roll USPSA match on the third sunday.

There is a Fresno group that shoots at Oakdale and you can hook up with them too. If you want PM me before the next Oakdale "fun" match. We can shoot together and I can guide you along. I can introduce you to the Fresno shooters.

I've shot with the IDPA folks at Winton too. Nice people.....except for that grumpy old guy who was in the balcony in the Muppets.....Duane is his name! Just kidding.....he is cool too. Fresno USPSA folks are nice people.

Erik....I can introduce you to the IDPA folks from Winton too at Oakdale.

I was down at the Winton range teaching late last year and it is really nice...except for the lack of running water.

I talked to some folks who shoot IDPA there and they were very friendly
