    transfer of gun ownership

need a little help or advice with a problem.. stupid question probably but I have never had to deal with this...I have recently been given an old shotgun that was my grandfathers, who passed years back. What do I need to do to register it to my name, or is it even necessary to do so because its family..just a little unclear about that..thanks

    Probably nothing needed.

That was probably an intrafamilial (parent/grandparent to/from child/grandchild) transfer; CA requires no paperwork for long guns (that are not 'assault weapons' - can't transfer them at all).

Depends on exactly how the path of transfer went; since grandfather passed some time ago, clearly someone else had the shotgun - if that were grandmother or your parents, no problem.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!
