    Traveling to Nevada

I hope this is the right place to ask this question. Sorry if not.

I will be traveling to Nevada and want to bring my Pistol with me. Anything I should be aware of? Anyone have experience with traveling to other states with their guns?

I am guessing that California is one of the strictest states and that if I keep following California laws I should be in good shape to not get into trouble.

I do NOT have a CCW. Not going to concealing. I just want peace of mind having my gun incase I break down or get into a position in which I need to defend myself and family while traveling.

    Thanks for the tips.

You can Loaded Open Carry in Nevada except in Clark County where it is required that you have a CCW to Open Carry. Otherwise as far as I know you can LOC everywhere else in Nevada.

While in CA, you'll likely be transporting the pistol unloaded in a locked container. You can continue into NV with it stored like that as 18 USC 926A allows this for interstate transport anywhere in the U.S. Keeping it in a locked container while traveling also keeps you in compliance with the federal GFSZ law should you travel through any school zones.

NV state laws are much more friendly than ours (e.g., you can carry a loaded gun in your car as long as a round is not chambered), so you have more options for transport and carry than you would have here in CA. Here is a summary on NV gun laws from NRA.

It gets tricky too. Clark County (Las Vegas) does allow open carry but dont expect a warm welcome from local LE if you try it. You'll still get calls about a man with a gun even out here in Nevada.

Also, North Las Vegas has its own statues about open carry. I think you cant transport your handgun openly through NLV like you can the rest of LV. (technically) I dont know how strong they enforce it though since its in Las Vegas?

Also, you are required to have a Clark County issued "blue card" registration card on you with your gun if you open carry...I believe? Dont quote me? I need to brush up on the laws myself.

Clark County/Las Vegas has weird gun laws due to the mobster days that have not been revised properly for the modern times. The rest of Nevada is very gun friendly.
