    shooting at Oaktree gun club?

I know this is the wrong place to ask but I'm not sure where else to post, so sorry in advance.

My friend called me a little while ago and told me someone rented a pistol at Oaktree earlier today and committed suicide. I know it happened once before earlier this year, I've searched and didn't come up with anything. I was wondering if it was true or if my buddy was talking about the earlier incident.
Sorry for posting in the wrong area, I didn't know where else to ask.

I guess I should have posted in the off topic area. If someone can move this I'd appreciate it.

I've not heard anything about it and the stringers have no idea. I'm probably going up there some time this week and I'll check then.

Unfortunately these incidents happen so often that there very likely could have been one today

It supposedly happened today. I know that there was one there at the beginning of the year and that it was the first time it had ever happened there. I thought my buddy got it mixed up. He's not a shooter. He had just got back into town from visiting family and was talking to his next door neighbor, who is a shooter. His neighbor got the day off due to the rain and decided to go shooting. He and his friend went to the range. The guys in front of them were renting pistols and buying ammo. They got their rentals and went to the line. The neighbor and his friend were paying for the range fees when one of the rental guys came back in covered in blood and screaming that he needs help, that his friend got shot.

This is what I've been told happened 2nd hand. That's why I'm asking here, I thought someone else may have heard something. I actually got the day off today due to the rain also, I was thinking about going to the range solo because I was bored. If this turn out to be true then I'm glad I didn't go. I wouldn't have wanted to have a picture burned into my mind.

Unfortunately, this goes with the territory of owning/running a range---its been going on as long as I can remember---sad, but no more then knowing you can be killed or hurt driving a car, walking across the street, etc. Some folks just find life is too damn hard and feel for whatever reason that they can no longer go on. The fact that they use a gun is their way of ending it, so is jumping off a bridge. Range owners beware when a guy asks "What is the smallest amount of ammo I can buy?" Believe it or not, this has happened---the guy is about to kill himself and he is concerned about paying for too much ammo!

I was there today, sheriffs were leaving while I was shooting. The employees wouldn't tell what exactly what was goin on.

Would this make the friend of the person who commited suicide in some way responsible in the eyes of the law.
If your renting guns and dont own or bring any yourself then there has to be two of you shooting togethar in order to rent, a buddy system. So your looking out for each other, so when something terrible like this happens How will the law look at the 2nd person.

Police are there all the time anyways. They do considerable amount of training there.

That is too bad. That's not fair to put the range owners/employees or its patrons through something this traumatic. Plus it places an unnecessary negative light on guns.

I hope that all the people involved get the help they need.

There is a youtube video of a mom first killing her son and then herself at a gun range. Very disturbing.

This may sound harsh or cold, but if someone doesn’t want to live anymore, why not let them humanly end their life at a special clinic? I say if you are 18 years or older and complete a screening (to make sure you just not after attention) then let them leave this earth in peace.

True, but they don't shut the proshop down during training. The sheriffs also don't leave in packs of 10 cars either.

I'm not saying we should legalize suicide, and I absolutely do not condone it, but we should have some kind of kit people can order to humanely end their lives.

To give you some figures, in 2007, 34,598 people committed suicide. It would be interesting to find out how/where these people committed suicide and the affects on the people that found them. In 2008, 34 people committed suicide off the Golden Gate Bridge - that is a gruesome task of the Coast Guard to recover these bodies.

Suicide is very sad and the reasons are complex, but it's tragic for the people find these people, especially a self-inflicted gun shot at your place of business.

I was in the CG, stationed on a 110 in oregon. We used to go down to SF on patrol. I was talking to some of the guys at the station and they were saying that most of the jumpers had their pants knocked off by the impact. Except levis, levis seem to hold up pretty well.

                          Tagging along for more info.

I think that if somebody wants to off themselves, you're going to be hard pressed to convince them otherwise.

This case, however, is a little strange in the sense that he brought along a friend. Why would a person want to subject somebody else to this, especially a friend? I'm sure this other kid is going to be given the third degree by the sheriff's dept.

Due to suicides, many shooting ranges have put additional rules into effect in order to try to stop the problem, such as being a member or coming with a second person in order to rent a firearm.

In addition to the obvious problem, the blood is a hazardous material and has to be properly cleaned up.

Why would someone want to subject the range and others there to something like this? Quite clearly the person is not rational, so bringing a friend due to restrictions is not out of the question. It could also be that it was a stupid mistake as many people don't really know how to handle firearms, including some law enforcement (see the youtube video where a person shoots himself in front of a class).

Hmmm. I live in the area and haven't heard anything.
