    # of guns sold in CA. per day

I was in Big 5 today, put a 870 7 shot in jail for ten days , actually 10 and a half days as Big 5 starts the waiting period the following morning, is this allowable?

Any how, the clerk happened to mention that I was # 780 to file DROS today, and that on some days that # will hit 2,000, holly crap, I had no idea. That is some big money. 780 x $25 = $19,500 and 2000x$25= $50,000 where does all that money go?

I had never thought of it in those terms before. Granted that most of those are probably repeat buyers, but with those kind of #'s, you would think we would have more power on our side

Can't wait to get the new little brother to my 1978 eara wingmaster .

I wonder how many guns were sold on Black Friday. We should start a national buy a gun day overload the DOJ with paperwork.

Dros #'s are state wide, not just Big 5

The state has the data on line at http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/drosdata2009.pdf

              For 2009, 483,272 guns - average 1324/day

That's about $12 million in 2009; not chump-change to me, but not much of the DOJ's $751 million budget.

ETA That's very nearly 8 million DROS transactions 1991-2009. We know that not all DROS are for new guns, but don't know the percentage split new vs PPT/consignment. And, multiple long guns can be on a single DROS, so we can't be sure what the actual numbers of guns may be.

You got that right. For every gun sold remember many people own multiples or are just hypocrit liberals that want to own maybe one for home protection but think others should not have the right. I'd say for every gun sold there 10x plus more people that have no interest in guns, want to take yours away, vote dem, and think anchor babies and illegals are cool.

Just the way CA is especially in the major voting blocks of LA and OC. The recent election pattern should prove that.

Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

Uh, I don't think Big 5 sold that many guns. He was stating that there were that many DROS'd in CA in one day.

Damn, I contributed with at least 300 bucks in dros fees to the DOJ this year, and many more in taxes. You'd think that the least they could do is stay out of our business?

It is a mistake to equate number of guns with an equivilant number of gun owners. 50 years ago a shooter probably owned 1-2 guns, maybe 4 tops. Today many shooters own 10 guns or more easy as society has become richer and the price of guns has dropped compared to earning power in the past. I'm guessing that gun owners are actually fewer as a percentage of the population compared to 50 years ago as hunting has declined and buying a gun has become more difficult. In 1960 you could buy a gun through the mail, most mid level department stores, and any hardware store besides the gun shops that were everywhere. I know people today who have though about buying a gun but don't want to go through the hassle and the waiting period.
