Shockingly, Gun Control Did NOT Prevent This Tragedy...

I know, it's hard to believe isn't it.

Should we even hazard a guess about what gun control advocates will say next... How are they going to twist this tragedy and use it to further their agenda when their efforts to date continue to fail miserably?

Cops: 7-Year-Old Who Fatally Shot Cousin in Police Custody

    Tuesday, June 26, 2007

BOSTON — A 7-year-old boy who fatally shot his cousin with an illegal, unregistered gun Sunday night is in police custody along with his mother, police told WKTV-Boston. The pair are being question be police for the shooting of Laquarrie Jefferson.

"This is a case with two victims — you have a victim who was shot and you have a 7-year-old who has to live with the fact that this happened for the rest of his life," police commissioner Davis told reporters. "So it is hard to call anybody a suspect in this case, except for that person who brought that gun into the house."

Denise Watts said LaQuarrie's relatives are struggling to come to terms with the shooting.

"I don't have a clue where he got this gun, but just I hope that this is a wake-up call to all the young mothers in Boston: Guns and babies do not mix," Watts said.

At the John P. Holland Elementary School in Dorchester, where LaQuarrie had just finished first grade, teachers burst into tears when they heard the news Monday, said Principal Michele O'Connell.

"When he'd see you, he'd want to give you a hug," said Jo-Ann Penn, director of instruction at the school. "If he knew he did something wrong, he would want to apologize. He was just innocent."

Police Commissioner Edward Davis said the boy was shot once in the abdomen and was pronounced dead several hours later at Boston Medical Center.

Davis said the boy's mother was in the apartment, in a four-story brick building on Seaver Street across the street from Franklin Park, when he was shot. He added that there were people who lived in the boy's apartment who were "related to gangs."

Reporters could not reach members of the family for comment after police restricted access to the building to residents. LaQuarrie's mother could not be reached by telephone.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

But Seriously, this is a tragedy for the child that died, and the child that must live for the rest of his life knowing he killed a child.

In High School, I knew a guy who believes he was responsible for his younger sister drowning in the pool. He believes he was the last person to leave the pool and didn't properly latch the gate shut. It was like watching a guy stuck in Black & White while the rest of the world was in color.

No amount of gun control would of stopped this from happening. It was an unregistered handgun, ergo it was illegal. Where it came from is irrelevant. Only those who follow the law would be deterred by it. So either the child got it on the streets, or a family member who lives at the house obtained it illegally, or I guess some acquaintance could of stashed the pistol there.

But of course, no one is going to accept responsibility so lets blame the inanimate object for the ills of mankind...

Well...if that's something here's something else. Lack of responsible parenting leads to irresponsible adults and young people.

Baby Dies After Accidently Shot With Pellet RifleLOS ANGELES, June 26, 2007 (CNS) - A 17-year-old boy is in custody Tuesday for fatally shooting his 2-month-old niece by accident with a pellet rifle, police said.

The boy, whose name was withheld, was sitting on his porch in the 100 block of East 31st Street "fumbling with a pellet rifle" when the shooting occurred about 5:30 p.m. Monday, Los Angeles police said.

According to police, the boy's sister, who was carrying his 2-month-old niece, was walking toward him when the "pellet gun discharged and (a pellet) struck the baby."

Melody Rojas died of her injuries about 4 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

The teen was booked on suspicion of homicide and held at Eastlake Juvenile Hall, police said.

When I was growing up, my mom had a rule: "No more than one criminal street gang member in the house at any given time!"

If little Laquarrie's mother had followed that same rule he might still be alive today.

Note this happened in Boston, a place that ranks in the top ten with the strictest gun laws in America, only the elite and politically powerful are allowed to have guns, legally. Also in the top ten in gun related crime.http://boston.areaconnect.com/crime1.htm Stats are a couple of years old but still relavent. you are 8-10 times more likely to be a victim in Boston than the average in the US....

I just can't get over that quote.
