simmons 22. mag scope work on ar-15?

So for x-mass someone got me a simmons 22. mag scope for my ar-15. They ask the sales man if it would work on the ar and they said it will work just fine. I want to know what u guys think. If i have to i will take it back but i would really feel bad if i did that.....

It's not a fancy high end scope by any means but if you're just going to be plinking around with it, it'll work for a while. Everyone's going to say its garbage, but lots of folks have used them for a long time and had no problems. It would be nice to have a better scope, but if you don't want to return it, just use it.

Use it if you don't want to take it back for an upgrade.
I use one on a Mini 14....no issues yet.

I had a 6-24x50 Simmons scope mounted on one of my AR platforms but the elevation adjustment would ratchet up one click each time it fired. Took me a while to figure out what the heck was going on, but it ended up being a problem so off it came. Funny thing is the scope works fine (i.e. holds zero) on a regular .22 and a .30-06 bolt action rifle, but not 5.56. Must be a harmonic issue between the action and scope.

I'd give it a try and see what happens.

I use one on a 10/22 with no problems. It should be fine for plinking.

Guntests magazine did a test of 4-5 bargain priced .22 scopes last month. The Simmons was the top performer. I have one, but have not mounted it yet. The guntests guys took each scope and immersed them in a sink full of icewater for 20 minutes and took them out. The simmons was the only one that didnt leak or fog up. It was also top dog in all the other aspects of the review. It's a keeper I think, especially for a plinker. I think Guntests is a trustworthy source for unbiased reviews as they do not take advertising or free products for testing..

Simmons is a decent quality scope and provides a fine value. You didn't mention the mag or objective size.
If the magnification and field of view meet your needs then it will be good. A 3-9X40 is traditional for plinking at 100 yards and less. You didn't mention how it will be used, informal target 100 yards or inside 75 yards plinking. It makes a difference.
I recently read a detail testing of some very expensive scopes and the difference in light transmission between these and a moderate priced Bushnell used for comparison was only a couple of percent. An expert would be able to tell the difference in 3% but not the average shooter.
If it fits your needs then mount it and shoot away.

There's a whole lot more to compare between a good scope, a great scope and a bargain scope than simple light transmission.

I still say keep the thing, mount it, use it until it quits.

It is a 3-9X32 I will be plinking with it at about 100 yards or less. This is my first scope so i dont mind it being a cheaper scope. If i like using a scope then maybe some day ill get something better but for now i think this will do.

I've got two of them, a regular 3-9X32 and the 3-9X32 AO. Both work great out to 100 yards, haven't tried shooting at longer distances, one on a 10/22., one on a Zastava Z5, both hold zero fine, no problems. On the ar you might have to get some different rings than the ones that came with the scope, I don't know about that. It'll do just fine!
