I'm flying to TX next week to see family and I'm bringing a Garand with me. Planning on breaking it down and putting it inside a Pelican 1700 case, which will leave some extra room for ammo and other assorted (expensive) things that I'd prefer to lock up with real locks.
The only ammo I've got for the Garand is M2 and M2-AP surplus, all in enbloc clips in bandoliers. According to Southwest's policy:
I doubt the bandoliers are going to cut it...I could put the bandoliers inside of another cardboard box, but they might not be happy about that either. The ideal solution would be something like this box for reloaders, but I don't think it would arrive in time if I ordered it. I'm not aware of any local shops stocking that sort of thing, but if there are any that you guys are aware of let me know.
Any other suggestions? I could buy some factory .30-06 just to use the boxes, but that would be pretty expensive. The only non-surplus rifle ammo I own is .223, and those boxes are a little small.

The ammunition may be placed in the same container as the firearm and must be securely packed in cardboard (fiber), wood, or metal boxes, or other packaging specifically designed to carry small amounts of ammunition.
