    AR-15 with .22LR rimfire conversion.

    Hello all,

I have a AR-15 with a BB. If I install a CMMG .22 LR conversion to make it rimfire, what are my options?

Since it is no longer a centerfire can I install 10+ round mags and only when the .22LR bolt is inside?

Can I also remove the BB during the rimfire conversion?

    Thanks

With a .22lr conversion you can legally use PRE-BAN .22lr magazines, and you may also remove your bullet button. Although some folks feel that you may still be at risk if you aren't running a dedicated .22lr upper and a marked .22lr lower without a bullet button, I do it all the time!

I was recently shooting on BLM land when a ranger stopped by and checked all my guns to make sure they were compliant. He questioned why my AR with a .22lr conversion didn't have a bullet button. As soon as I explained that it was setup to shoot .22lr he continued checking the rest of the guns and after he finished, he ended up shooting the bull with us for about a half an hour before leaving us to shoot some more.

Are rangers allowed to do that, or does there need to be some other circumstance for them to inspect your guns? I've never been shooting on BLM land.

It sounds like you had a good experience though.

Rangers have further legal powers than a normal LEO. They do not need cause to inspect firearms. Basically, all shooters are suspect of poaching.
