New gun, scope has a couple blemishes

Not sure how I feel. I ordered a new rifle but they had to ship it from another store. It was supposedly in a box in the back, but it looks like the display model. The scope has some paint dings on the edge of the front of the scope. Meaning, the edge of the scope hood looks like the paint got scraped off a little bit in two places. Each little ding is like 1/8" long.

I asked if I could upgrade rifles and they were okay with it but didn't find anything I liked or they were too much money. They never offered me a box of ammo, etc. or anything to make me feel better, not that they have to. So, I just decided to take the rifle. It was either that or cancel the whole thing. Now I feel kinda disappointed.

Am I making a mountain out of a mole hill here?

This is not my scope. But I put two white marks on the edge of the hood so you can get the idea.

Touch it up with some model paint or a Sharpie and forget about it. It's like the first scratch on a new car. Yes, it hurts to look at but hey, these things get dinged up. Yours just came pre-dinged. Now the other nicks it will accumulate over the years won't hurt so much.
I'm just like you though. I obsess over things like that. But if functionality hasn't been affected, just move on.
On the other hand...if it really does bother you, go tell them. Tell them you want an exchange or your money back. Probably not worth the hassle though, in my opinion.

It's too late to do anything about it now. I'm the type who is really anal about imperfections with items I buy brand new. And I sift through every one to find the one with no imperfections.

But then you have a lot of people who will think you're a whiney ***** and tell you, "it gives it character man".

The way I see it is, you paid good money for a BRAND NEW item... it better be in perfect condition. Even if it means you might eventually scratch it up anyways. But as I said, it's too late now.

I was worried it got banged. But they said if it has any problems at the range, to come see them.
