if i had the choice, i'd prefer 5.56 too........but i wouldn't cringe if a stray .223 wandered into the cashe. Dude's just being a douche. Make sure you tell him that, because douche's never realize their douchiness until someone points it out and won't let them forget it. Find some phrase/noise you can say/make everytime he says douchey things like that.....i find singing "you're the best.....AROOOUUUND!! nothing's ever gonna get you down!" (Karate Kid) works REALLY well!!!

We would all rather shoot 5.56 then .223, but then again it really dont matter. Shoot what you can. He will figure it out, until then why does it bother you.
Whats with all the military elitist crap, makes it sound like people have a self-esteem issue.
I still call it all 5.56, I know the difference but old habits die hard. Really confuses people who dont know what 5.56 is but prior service and alot of gun people always know what your talking about.

Like cops, most people in the military aren't gun people.
Alot of guys go into the military having never used a weapon, and then assume that what the Army issued them is the best there is, which we all know is about as far from the truth as you can be!
These guys get out and only want to use what they had because "that's what i had in the Army, so its best" Oh well. No skin off my nose.

Take him shooting.... give him a magazine full of .223 and a second magazine full of .223, don't tell him which is which but lie and say ONE of them is 556.

Have him shoot both magazines and ask him to tell you which magazine was which...

I have a buddy who's in the service and says he won't shoot .223 and only 5.56 because .223 is ***** civilian stuff.

I really had no response for such (imo) an asinine comment.
Can someone help me understand his sentiment on this?

It's that kinda like saying "I refuse to buy my gasoline by the gallon, I will only buy petrol by the liter because the metric system is better."

Tell your friend he's a d-bag, and tell him he should say thank to the taxpayers for shooting on their dime.
