    Ruger LCR Question.

I'm heading down to the local shop tomorrow to buy a Ruger LCR.

My question, is the 357 magnum version available for sale in CA.

I've heard that they are out in production, but haven't seen the 357 version-- just the 38spl.

    Any info.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Ask 'Toolbox X' on this forum about his Ruger LCR experience. He might convince you to look elsewhere.

What was his experience? I searched his name and couldn't find a thread describing any problems

same here, didn't see anything regarding problems, but I did see that he did sell an LCR. Didn't see any problems listed in the add.

            edit: found it:

The LCR is a great pistol that suffers from one serious flaw. After you pull the trigger if you only let the trigger reset 90% of the way before you pull it again the cylinder will cycle but the firing pin does not reset so the pistol will not shoot. This only comes into play when you rapid fire the pistol but it happens frequently to me.

IMHO, this flaw is totally unacceptable on a gun designed primarily to be a CCW weapon.

I think the guy had unrealistic expectations. Revolver trigger reset is different than on a pistol. He'd probably be happier with a Glock...

I have a Ruger LCR, its my "Secondary" CCW firearm. I love it. I have not experienced the trigger reset issue, most likely because I never try to short reset a revolver. It's not a Glock....

The only complaint I have is the availability of good CCW holsters.

The gun itself is fine. People don't realize the revolver needs to come to a full reset. It's not a gun problem.

However, it's miserable to shoot. Use it for its intended purpose, concealed carry. For that purpose, it's a great piece. But I'd still rather shoot 50 rounds from the Alaskan than 50 from the LCR. And I'd have to imagine the 357 version is even more miserable. I may have to get it anyway!

+1 to this, it really is a miserable gun to shoot...........if its not ccw buy something like a ruger gp100. They are very nice firearms and comfortable to shoot alot of rounds out of.

It's got almost the exact dimensions of the S&W 340 series. Try looking for a holster for that model.

I love mine and don't find it that uncomfortable to shoot at the range. I usually put about 100 rounds thu it on a range trip, and while not the most fun to shoot, it isn't God awful. I carry it as a BUG or occasionally as a primary gun. I don't see Toolbox X's issue as a problem, as all DAO revolvers require the trigger to be fully released to operate the internals unlike a semiauto. Not a design flaw, just part of being familiar with how your particular firearm operates.

                          Thanks for the info.

I have a S&W Scandium that I shoot fairly often, I even tried out the 125's & 145gr ammo in my revolver. That was a handful, and I won't do that again.

I like the ruger lcr because it offers (to me), a weight right inbetween the Scandium & the Air weight models.

Also the polymer backstrap from what I figure will not 'flake' off like my S&W Scandium & Air weight models. The trigger pull is also a plus.
