    What would you do?

Ok, so here's the situation. A fellow Marine and very good friend of mine is in a lawsuit/counter-lawsuit with State Farm because of an accident he had about a year ago or so. He is very confident about his odds and has told me that IF he wins, he promises me a .416 Model 82A1 Barrett, a value of $9k+!!

I have no doubt he will follow through with his word.

Ever since he's made this random promise it has got me thinking. Should I take the Barrett, or exchange it for the many, many other weapons I can add to my armory in place of it. SCAR, FN FAL, Benelli M4... Oh, the list could go on... but then I regress - if I take his offer that's a beast of a $9k weapon, and the chances of me getting it somewhere in the distant future is unknown. The rest are cheap in comparison.

What would you do? Take the Berrett or stock up the gun rack with a variety of weapons?

No way in hell I'd take the Barrett if I had to compromise with some gimpy .416 model. I mean, I know it's still a beast, but we're talking about the be all end all of severely-reach-out-and-f-some-****-up of weapons.

Use some of the money to move out of California first, and then ask for the .50 model.

IMO, the first factor you need to consider is ammunition. Are you prepared or planning on loading your own or are you prepared to pay upwards of $5/round? If not, I'd recommend getting something else.

I don't think you should even have these visions of sugarplums dancing around in your head. If I were you I'd graciously thank my friend for the offer and decline. That's way too much of a gift to accept.

ditto, at 9k , i'd feel a bit overwhelmed and bad about it, i'd say buy me a beer, steak and some ammo and we'll call it a day!

100% agree. Recently a buddy of mine won a lawsuit and came into a lot of money. He promised me 6 months ago or so that when he won, he'd buy me a new rifle of my choice. When he won and asked me what rifle I wanted him to buy for me, I told him don't worry about it. Now I'm helping him build his first AR!

It is a gift of friendship. I would keep it. If I give a gift to my friend and he sold it, I would not feel good about it.

First of all, I will tell him just buy me a lunch. He may need the money for himself.

I agree with all the guys that said a lunch and beer would do just fine. He might suprise you with a nice gift of lesser value, but that would be his choice, not a promise he made in haste,

I can't even comprehend most of your views on this. Lol

                      Don't take the offer!?!?!?!?

BTW, that was not one of my options, is still isn't.

I'm not sure where taking the offer is such a bad thing. I'm sure as hell not going to feel guilty or bad about it.

I can't tell you whether you should take the offer or not but I have never had a friend that I would take something that big off of unless I seriously earned somehow. But that aside I would consider what others have said about costs, hassle, and where would you shoot it. It would be a safe queen for all time. Having may not be a nice as wanting as they say. I know a lot of expensive cars I could afford to buy but I sure don't want the associated costs that go with them such as repair bills, insurance, and then the jerks who hate me for having it. You have a lot to think about other than an impulse want.

If he's gonna be that generous, then just take the money.
