    House's Alarm went off!!!

My house's home Alarm went off in middle of the night. Rushed to open the small gun safe at night stand; grasped the pc S&W 627 and searched the whole house. Saw one of the windows was lifted off. Sh****tty. That's it. I need a sleep for work tomorrow. Why do some bastards want to wake me up in middle of the night? Will call cop to report tomorrow.

Why wait? Report now while details are fresh in your mind.

It sucks that it happened and you lost sleep - but the good thing is that your alarm worked the way it's supposed to, and it had the intended result - the bad guy ran away. +1 for the home team. The alternative is you could've been awakened by the sound of an intruder in your house in the middle of the night - or could've woken up to find you'd been hot-burgled in the night. Or it's possible he had worse things on his mind - but the good news is your security system did its job.

Scary. What does the window was lifted off mean? They took your window out? how is that even possible? Do you leave them open/unlocked at night?

Didn't think that could be done from the outside. Especially if locked. Maybe it can't. I dunno. Critical thinking escapes me as I just finished studying so my brains fried and have drank a couple glasses of makers mark. Time for bed!

Some things just don't make sense. The time it took the OP to log into CG and type his post, he could have filed his report with the PD.

I'm sorry - while I agree it would have been best to report it at the time - have you ever had to file ANYTHING with the police? First, there's no active crime in progress so this will take a back seat to bar fights and domestic disputes and drunk drivers. Who knows how long it will take for an officer to be freed up to respond. Then there is the paperwork. And then there is always the chance that the officer will want to snoop around more, interview other family, maybe the neighbors. Probably a couple of hours tied up at least. It's not like you can pick up the phone, say "Yeah we had an attempted break in, ok bye..." I sympathize with the OP's desire to try to get back to sleep knowing at least the alarm system works and is doing it's job.

Would love more details though. Maybe the OP did not lock the window, either intentionally or by oversight. Maybe the crook pried it open, breaking the lock. Would love to hear the details in language we can understand. "Lifted off" is what rockets do... that doesn't make sense to me in the context of circumventing a window.

Go to Home Despot and get a box of screws and some 1x.5's. Screws in the top rail will prevent lifted windows. 1x.5's cut to length in the bottom rail prevents windows sliding even if you forget to lock them.

As soon as I saw the window was popped, I would have called 911. Strong hand on gun, off hand on phone. Probably lost the chance of ever catching this guy. Glad you are safe and sound though
