Midway range bag review - first impression.

I just received the Midway range bag (which was on sale for $39.99, by the way). My first impression is... wow.

It looks/feels durable and well made. Most importantly, it's also well thought through. There's a big side pocket for a large handgun, 3 side pockets for regular handguns. All of them are padded, of course. Then there're the two padded handgun inserts for the main storage compartment it came with (and I ordered two more, not sure I should have, we'll see. I didn't realize it already came with two of those inserts).

Now, the main storage compartment has two pockets for the handgun inserts, and another insert for ammo/mags/whatever else you want. That insert can also be used as a portable ammo carrier (it's a true insert, in the sense that it can be removed from the range bag), and it has that nice pouch with mesh bottom for collecting brass. It also has a couple of dividers.

There're many mag loops in both the side pockets and the detachable ammo carrier.

There're two more side pockets, one zipped for various odds and ends, and one open and with a drain, for a water bottle.

The carry stripe is wide and well padded, with large steel carabiners. All side pockets are double-zipped, so one can put a lock on them.

The only thing that I find lacking is the similar double zipper for the main compartment (since the handgun inserts don't have it, either, so they can't be locked). It would help here in CA, and in other states with similar crappy laws. I'll see if it can be locked by running the lock through the zipper and the sling loop, hopefully it's doable.

Overall, this is a great bag.

I got this bag too. I use it for competition mainly and it is a great bag. Fits everything i would ever need and then some. When i was researching this bag before i purchased it, i heard that its like the same bag that 5.11 or blackhawk sells, only difference is the Midway logo stitched in and the $85 less price tag. great bang for your buck and for all your gear.

Yup, I got this bag as well. The same price as you awhile back. Fits everything I need and more for a trip to the range. And at that price, its hard to beat.

I also have one. It seems to be well made. It does a good job of holding everything I need when I take my handguns to the range. If it was just a little bit bigger I could fit my rifle ammo too. I got mine on sale for about the same price. Apparently the batch mine was from had problems with the shoulder strap. I never used mine so I didn't notice but Midway sent me an email and shipped me a new strap for free.

Well, I sent mine back! The bag was WAY too big for what I carry around. In exchange I got the smaller range bag which is also excellent. I got it in OD as I've resolved to stop buying things that are black. I can't find black mag loader, flashlight etc in a black bag! But now I need to color coordinate my accessories, guess I'll getting my wife's opinions, LOL.

Anyway, good choice and be careful you don't get a hernia if you fill it up.

I got one of these bags also and I will say it's well made and spacious, I find it way to big. Yes it will hold just about everything for a day at the range but it becomes way to heavy with all the guns, gear and ammo. There are so many pockets and slots that I loose my stuff inside. What pocket did I put my site adjustment tool in? Mine gets so heavy that I wish it had a set of wheels and a handle on it like a carry on luggage bag has. My bag now sits and I went back to my smaller pistol bag and a separate ammo bag. Don't get me wrong, it's a good bag but it just dosent work for me....

I've got the smaller Midway bag and find it really well made so I imagine the bigger one is also great. I say buy the one you think you need, and if its too big/small, buy the other one. Can you really ever have too many bags?

I orderred two, one for a christmas gift for my shooting buddy. I like big bags because I bring lots of stuff with me to the range: tools, cleaning supplies, lubricants, hearing protectors, shooting glasses, spare magazines and a minimum of two handguns.

It's going to replace my 30 year old range bag that is a similar size but has seen better days.

In order to balance my load I don't carry ammunition in my range bag. I use G.I. Pilots helmet bags for Ammo, they work great and can hold a lot. http://www.armynavystoreinc.com/gi-s...elmet-bag.aspx

I don't carry ammunition in my range bag though.

Thanks for the heads up. I have been needing a new range bag.

UPS (Oops, I mean Santa) just delivered an OD one for me and of course I had to cheat and look before I put it under the tree. At first glance, I'm really impressed. There are so many pockets, I'll have to buy more gear now that I have a place for it all (what a great excuse!)

I also gave one as a gift. I think I'm really going to like this!

I've got the same bag after some research. It's highly recommended and perfect for my needs. Holds everything one can want for the range or a camping trip. I'll probably get the smaller one as well. Great bag.
