    Mini-14

To sell or not to sell...

I have a Mini-14 that I rarely shoot and taking up much needed safe space, several of my friends have offered to buy it from me, one even is standing by with cash in his pocket. I had told myself that I am done selling any of my stuff, but I could use the money for another item on my gun wish list.

I think what kills me most about selling it is all the accessories that I have for it. I told my buddy that if I did sell it to him I would give him ten mags, scope mount, harris bi-pod adapter, sight adjustment tool and three stocks.

The only thing wrong with the rifle is recently I installed a front night sight and when I took off the pinned on muzzle brake I discovered the muzzle looks like maybe it was threaded at one time and they did a sloppy epoxy job. It shoots fine also new barrel cost less than $60

    What do you guys think?

And if I do sell it should I put the money towards a new Glock, Taurus Titanium .44mag or towards another AR?

    Thanks for your opinions

Taurus Titanium 44 mag? So you want to go from a rifle you shoot hardly ever to a pistol you shoot almost never? I'm no wimp on recoil but shooting that 44 has got to be no fun.

River City has the Target Mini, maybe dump your current Mini & get the more accurate version? You'll get to keep your mags & such.

Regarding the front sight, I switched out mine and there's no threading. Just a pin & some sort of crappy white epoxy. I don't think your sight switch out diminshed the value at all.

Just make sure that the mags you give with it are 10 rounds or less.

I want the .44 mag as a hiking gun and it goes well with my lever action 44.

Even if I did get a new mini I still don't think I would shoot it much since I have my AR now.

The mini does come in a threaded version for Law Enforcement, I got mine used. I don't know how else to explain why the muzzle looks like it does, i'll post pics when I get time.

My buddy is an LEO so the mags are legal.

Not necessarily. He can possess them with permission from his CLEO, but he can't just buy them FTF or over the counter without that permission.

When I purchased my SiG 226 for duty I had to have a letter from my CLEO for the high cap mags, which I have to surrender to the agency upon termination.

Policy Change Regarding State Exemptions for Authorized Peace Officers

Effective immediately, peace officers who have legislative authority to carry and use firearms may, without a letter signed by the head of their agency or the agency head's designee, purchase non-rostered handguns and/or large capacity magazines. The peace officer must present a valid peace officer identification card and the dealer must retain a copy of the identification card on file. (PC 12132 & 12133). A letter is still required from the head of the agency to exempt the peace officer from the ten day waiting period. (PC 12078).
Now all you have to do is walk in to a gun store that sell high cap mags and show them your LEO ID and your good to go.

That was under the federal law which is no longer in effect.

I'll stand corrected. Wasn't aware of that change. Thank you kindly.

I think I'd charge the buyer for the extra stuff.

I think I'd buy something that will probably be banned around the beginning of 2009 if Republicans can't find a viable pres candidate.

In any event, I don't see any advantage of a Mini v. an AR, even a prk neutered AR.

I never sell any semi auto rifles. I have been known to trade and give them to family.

I traded mine out along with a yugo sks for a new Ruger GP100. I never fired either after building an AR and AK with bullet buttons. Now that I think about it, I rarely fire anything but the AR anymore. My safe sits there mocking me full of items I rarely take out. In fact I think I've put all of 40 rounds through the Rem 700 PSS I bought 8 months ago. The wierd thing is, though, I still want more guns. I sold 12 of my Surf Boards and rarely surf any more, but I still want to buy more boards too. I think we all have a sickness.

Yes, it is a sickness, but I don't want to be cured.
