Judge sees former cop as danger to LBPD, city

"A former Long Beach Police officer was sentenced Thursday to three years in state prison for weapons violations".

I thought police officers could have any guns they want?

    and lol at this

"After his dismissal, Gjersvold went shopping for a high powered assault rifle with a scope at a "Big 5 Sporting Goods" store, the judge read"

Reading the article it appears he was let go in 2008. He was charged some time after as a PI, with two AR AWs and one baton, hence he was no longer a LEO. The AW charge indicates to me that they were not his/registered AWs during his time as a LEO and hence not registered to his name as AW after being removed from duty. His POST certification must have lapsed? Batons are also dangerous weapons that require either a guard baton permit or PC832.

He has a serious whooping coming to him, from all the people he helped put away. Former LEO's don't do well in prison.

I hate the AWB as much as anyone here, but from the article I get the impression that the guy was just kind of a numbskull. In any event, it's a good reminder that there are plenty of DAs and judges out there who are willing to throw the book at you if your AR is not a RAW or otherwise legally-configured.
