    private party transfer question

    are there any requirements that a handgun you are selling must be registered to you when you are selling it to another person (through a dealer of course).

    my bestfriend is selling a gun he got when his dad died while living in arizona,he said he has had it for about 5 years,he never did the doj FIREARM OWNERSHIP RECORD as he got the gun from a dead parent.does he need to first fill this form out then do the ppt with the dealer or can he just take the gun to a dealer and do the ppt to the individual??

      No, a gun need not be registered at all before being transferred in a PPT. See the Wiki article on registration.

        The state of california really does not care as long as the gun gets into the system if the gun is in this state. If the gun is on a stolen list they will put a hold on it and if not then it becomes registered to the new owner. Many guns come in from out of state and have been here for years without being registered.

            1924.

            It was required to use dealers for transfers beginning 1991.

              talked to my local FFL today while picking up a g19,he said the doj gets hinky when the sellers name does not match the name on the gun.

              i spoke to him about turning in the personal firearm form and he said if there is anything wrong with the gun that the doj will be at the door..
