Ar Lower Parts Kit

Is it worth it to spend the extra money for a good name parts kit, like say Daniel Defense over DPMS? I know everyone says the lower is low impact and you should spend your money on the upper, so I'm just wondering if it's worth it to spend extra on the lower parts kit. It's about 20 more for Daniel Defense vs DPMS.

I was wondering about this myself. So, is the general rule of thumb that you should go all out on an upper? As for $20 bucks more, I would get the DD.

I'll probably just go for the DD, but I'm just curious.. Palmetto state Armory has a LPK for sale or $44.. It doesn't say who makes it, well it says they make it.. I wonder if they really make it or just rename it.

So $44 vs $70 or $25 difference. I was just thinking that extra $25 could get me a nice repair kit with a bunch of extra parts that go in the lower.


I think part of the price difference is the DD comes with the Magpul pistol grip and also magpul enhanced trigger guard.

I put together a lower using DPMS lpk and the detent select was out of spec. RRA was flawless. Stag lpk's also had no issues. Spend the extra cash and get a quality lpk.

The mag catch roll pin was a P.O.S in my DPMS LPK, purchased a new pin & it went in fine. Then again how many companies use a micrometer to check pins? Rest of the kit was fine though.

Personally I like Armalite LPKs. Only built one with a DPMS and as others mentioned it was out of spec.

Bushmaster kit has been great with mine, and it was only an extra $10 over the cheap crap one. With that little price difference its just stupid to go cheap.

This is actually quite contrary to my experience with DPMS LPK. I have personally install more then 10 (probably more like 20) DPMS LPK into many different brands of lower receivers, and I have yet to have one single LPK to be so out of spec that they don't work.

I did experience some that are quite a tight fit, but that happens to pretty much all the LPK brands out there. These are manufactured parts and tolerance stacking can occur sometimes!

PS. I've also used several other brands of LPK including the ones that comes in plain clear plastic bag of unknown origin, they all work! Some just requires a little bit more work to fit. IF this is your first AR build, I suggest that you get all the necessary tools and take it sloooooow...

I ended up cleaning up the hole with a little dremel bit, crushing the pin ever so slightly, and using a very light coating of assembly lube to get mine in. This is of course after I snapped the first one. On the plus side I have a second LPK kit now [minus pin].

My thoughts exactly. No telling what kind of pieced together junk you will find in a sub standard LPK.

I had problems with a few DPMS kits (more than most), had one or two Stag Kits have issues, and even a couple RRA.... Everyone pretty much will have a lemon once and a while. I like the Stag parts myself. Just stay away from anything blackthorne.... ::shudder::
